Why choose the Catholic faith?

Nope. Science can study anything, the empirical, the nebulous, the philosophical, stars, planets, gods, ghosts, beauty, love - anything - there are no limits!! Open your mind
Hahaha!! PR is right, you do have very strong faith.

Science can study anything in the natural world. It cannot study things in the spiritual world (what evidence can it produce on ghosts?) nor can it delve into the human intellect. It can, indeed, observe the effects of ghosts on the world, and it can sense the electrical sensations caused by human thought, but it cannot produce and replicate them.

I note you failed once again to produce a source for your claim.

I admire that you are doing your best, but I don’t. If someone comes up with new evidence or proof or a new theory that changes what we all thought up to that point, then we change our minds. I would to, even morality. The church sees that as a weakness, but it is one of the great characteristics of human endeavour - our ability to change our minds, in the light of new evidence.
Oh, that’s another thing science can’t understand; morality.

You fundamentally don’t understand what science is if you think it can’t study philosophy.

There are no boundaries to scientific exploration.
There’s another one! Science doesn’t understand philosophy, either.

Then please show us the peer-reviewed studies that back up your assertion that science is the ONLY means we have for obtaining answers about reality.

Now, since I’ve asked this of you at least 5 times, and you haven’t provided any studies…

it’s clear that you don’t have any evidence for this belief.

You simply believe it on FAITH.

Could you provide a source for your definition of what science is. It is a word, is has a proper meaning. This is an exorcise you desperately need to undertake. Because you don’t understand the proper meaning of the word, and there for you lack understanding of its proper bounds. If you want to continue addressing topics like philosophy, religion and other such abstract concepts then you really need to know the meanings of these words, and their proper roles.

Edit
sci·ence

/ˈsīəns/

Noun

1.The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural…
2.A particular area of this: “veterinary science”.

Why can’t we research morality?
Morality is something that has to do with religion, and is driven by the Divine Law. Man’s conscience gives him a concept of it. Science can record the results of people and morality, but cannot “study” it, per se. That’s like asking if a telescope can study an ant.
That sentence does not make sense, but I get the gist.
How does the sentence not make sense??

I actually loved this skewed logic. It is not a belief. If you can show differently, I will change my mind. I have no problem doing that 🙂

I think it is safe to assume that there is no proof of any God. In that respect any religions who claim they have a god do so on a equal footing. No one can say that one religion is more true than others. They are are all man-made. Until we have evidence I feel that best you can say is that the above just an opinion.
Aprilfloyd, I would say it’s safe to assume that God cannot be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, because one cannot prove the infinite by using the finite. Man has a very finite mind. He is incapable of “proving” the infinite. His inability to “prove” the infinite, however, in no way means that it does not exist. You have to see a little further than your nose to see this one. Man is not “it.” God is. An amoeba is closer in intelligence to man, than we are to God.

I believe it comes from the latin word ‘scientia’ meaning ‘knowledge’ and is essentially knowledge attained through study.

I think you are struggling with the meanings, if you think there are topics that can’t be studied. In fact I am amazed that people on here think that there exists topics that can’t be studied.

My source is the humble dictionary

Science:-

1.a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences.
2.systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.
3.any of the branches of natural or physical science.
4.systematized knowledge in general.
5.knowledge, as of facts or principles; knowledge gained by systematic study.

Origin:
1300–50; Middle English < Middle French < Latin scientia knowledge, equivalent to scient- (stem of sciēns ), present participle of scīre to know + -ia -ia

“Science is the ONLY method we have for discerning reality” is NOT a belief?

Well, if it’s a fact, back it up with science.

Please show us the studies. 😃

I will never tire of asking you to show us these studies, april.

Because your lack of evidence is supremely amusing.

Until then, what you are proposing is only a statement of FAITH.

No, the onus is on you to prove your believe that science can evaluate anything. You still haven’t posted a link in the history of your membership on CAF.
Are we really going to play ‘the onus is on you, no its on you game’

OK I will make it easier. Can anyone name a topic that** cannot be studied**

If they do then I will change my mind 🙂

LOL!

No one is saying that topics can’t be studied.

Because God said that if we do not eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood we will not have eternal life.
