Does anybody know about St Anthony’s life and why he is the saint of lost things?

Saint Anthony is the patron of lost objects. We ask him to pray for us. We do not pray to him.

I read once that a man in St. Anthony’s monastery left and stole St. Anthony’s psalter when he left. St. Anthony prayed about this and the man returned with St. Anthony’s psalter and repented. St. Anthony allowed him to rejoin the order and the story spread.

Someone can back me up or correct me of they can.

I had this experience a few years ago.

Some $30 was misplaced. Not a large sum, but since I’m on SSI, it is for me.

I asked people to pray that I would find it. People offered to invoke St. Anthony for me.

A few days later, someone sent me a check for $100 saying that he felt in prayer that I should get this. It arrived on 16 June–Feast of St. Anthony.

Draw your own conclusions.

I too have heard that it had to do with recovering a lost Breviary or Bible.

I also think it can apply to his extraordinary charism for going out and converting heretics back to the faith. He found sheep that had been lost.

I was lost in a bad part of the city and I prayed to St. Anthony and made a turn and there was the interstate! Whether or not this was due to his intervention, I still credit him.
