why confession

when jesus started the last supper, he did not have confession from the aspostles. why must we? all he said was do this in memory of me. as far as st pauls writings go. he was telling them about the agape and having the lords supper not worthy. plus he used the adverb form in his writings. so please tell me where we got this idea.

We get from John 20:22, where Jesus breathed on the apostles and said to them: “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive men’s sins, they are forgiven them; if you hold them bound, they are held bound.”

Having given the apostles the power to forgive sins in his name, He expected them to use it.
