Why diamonds not included?

I’ve been wondering why did God not include diamonds as among the precious stones adorned on the foundation of the city wall of the “New Jerusalem” ( Rev. 21: 19 - 20 ).

Diamonds were already known in the Old Testament. Infact it is stated in Ezekiel 28: 13.

Is there something in diamond that is evilish or what? I know that this is kind of a childish question but I just want to make clear on this query as to why God did not include diamonds as among those precious stones?

The colors and properties of the stones are symbolic of the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles.

Diamonds really are something set apart. They can be all different colors. They are the hardest gemstone. And yes, they do come into the Bible.

An ‘adamant’ is the old name for a diamond. It means ‘hard as steel, invincible, unbreakable’. So yes, in Ezekiel 3:9, in the old Douay Rheims translation, it says, “I have set my face like an adamant and like flint.” This verse is often applied to Jesus Christ, as you know.

In Zachariah 7:12, we read, “And they made their heart as the adamant stone, lest they should hear the Law…” Likewise, Jeremiah 17:1, “The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, with the point of a diamond; it is graven upon the table of their heart, upon the horns of their altars.” So being stubborn like adamant can be a bad thing too, when directed against God instead of for him.

Anyway, back to the question of the precious stones in the wall. In ancient times, people appreciated color and workability more than the hardness of diamonds. Diamonds were more an interesting gemstone than the most valuable one, and they generally prized colored ones more than white. In modern times, we think of white diamonds as the most precious stone because De Beers has a very good, very long term advertising campaign for them.

But if you like, you might think of the twelve stones in the city wall as symbolizing the 12 Tribes and the 12 Apostles, and of Jesus as the glowing diamond in the middle of the city.

The translation done by the American Bible Society mentioned diamonds in that particular verse of the scripture. My purpose of posting this question is that I would like to know if during the old testament time diamonds were already known by the Israelites because basing from historical point of view diamonds were first discovered in India between 800 to 600 B.C. but not of the same form and brilliance as we have known today.

I have read also that blue diamond which is the most valuable gem, possesses a negative energy and causes unexplained death by those who owns it. That’s the reason why I posted this question in this forum basing from Rev. 21: 19 - 20 wherein no diamond is mentioned among the precious stones although I know that it was just a figure of speech.

What Bible are you looking at in which it says diamonds?
I’ve checked the New American Bible, the Douay-Rheims Bible, the Christian Community Bible - Catholic Pastoral Edition, and none of them mention diamonds in that verse you quoted.

As for what you have heard about a blue diamond causing unexplained deaths that is superstition and to believe such a thing is a grave sin against the 1st Commandment.
