Why did Christ wait?

I have some questions for Non-Catholic Christians on this forum*:

1)How were Christians in the first fifteen hundred years saved?

2)If they were saved without these modern churches, why were these established?

1. If they were not saved without them, why did Jesus, who came upon this earth with the purpose of instituting a life-giving and soul saving church, not call these churches into being at a earlier date?

4)If He could found these churches later, He could have founded them sooner to greatly benefit humanity. Why did He defer so long what was necessary?

1. How could he threaten Christians of the first fifteen centuries with damnation, if it was not called into being centuries after His death?

Funny. I can’t see how your questions apply to the Orthodox. You appear to have fallen into the silly, politically correct habit of referring to Protestants as “non-Catholics,” as if only Catholics and Protestants existed.

The same way anyone is saved–by faith in Christ.

2)If they were saved without these modern churches, why were these established?

If people before the 13th century were saved without the mendicant orders, why were these established?

Most Protestants don’t claim that our “churches” are the One True Church. Comparing how I think about the Episcopal Church, or how my wife thinks about the United Methodist Church, to how you think about the Catholic Church is comparing apples and oranges. Most of us see our denominations as local expressions of the Body of Christ, and/or as movements within the Church analogous to Catholic religious orders. Your questions are only relevant to a very small minority of modern Protestants.

This whole concept was pretty much what converted me… I had NEVER known church history, nor did I even question it. But when I realized that the only church (outside of orthodoxy) for 1500 years was Catholic, I was forced to either be agnostic or Catholic… Christ could not have lied when he promised to protect his church.

Here is my point:

If Christ was God, He was wise, good and powerful enough to establish His saving Church at once, and He declared that He would establish it. If He failed or neglected to do this, in spite of His contrary promises and declarations, He plainly was not God. And if He was not God, why bother about Him anymore at all?
