I think that is a matter of faith told to us by others that God’s reasons for allowing suffering is beyond our understanding.
Actually, Nimen, it’s a matter of reason. God, by definition, is that which is infinite, inscrutable, unfathomable. If you understand him, he is not God. He would be finite, no?
So, reason tells us that if you compare the finite mind of the human to that of the Infinite God, comparing a 1 yr old to a 40-something adult is not even close to mirroring the great chasm of understanding that exists between the 2 entitites.
Think of it mathematically:
1 yr old>>>finite chasm of inability to comprehend>>>40-something adult.
40 something adult >>>>INFINITE chasm of inability to comprehend>>>God
That I would be capable of understanding even if a one year old could not.
Your understanding, math and logic tells us, is even less than that of a 1 yr old, compared to that which the Infinite Godhead knows.
God has never told me directly I cannot understand it.
Huh? God speaks to you directly? What has he told you?
If you mean that God never speaks to you directly then how is it you know anything about God?
Also people do give explanations such as “God is testing us like he tested Job”. That is certainly understandable because I understand the concept of a test. It seems to be that the God is beyond our understanding is trotted out when all the other explanations fail to convince.
*Abusus non tollit usum. * It may be that this reasoning is proferred in the above example, but it does not change the fact that there is a truth being proclaimed: God is indeed beyond our understanding.
Let’s say my 15 year old DD said, “You always say I can’t take the car whenever you want to use it.”
Ok. That may be true. But it doesn’t change the fact that she still can’t take the car. She is only15 after all.
