Why did God even create us if He knew that some would go to hell?

Letting my heterodoxy show through, I believe that very, very few people go to hell. Billions may be in purgatory til the 2nd coming, but in time they too will see God. As a father, there is nothing my sons could do to me or someone else that would cause me to banish me from my life forever. And as a father, my love is flawed, imperfect, self-centered and inconsistent.

Many Christians, including Catholics, believe that most people go to hell. A few believe only 144,000 souls will go to heaven (an un-thinking interpretation, IMO). But perfect love does not seek its own ends. God–who could justifiably condemn all of the saints from Peter to Francis of Assisi to hell–looks for “tiny excuses” to pull us through. If I’m wrong, then I"ll burn.

1 Corinthians 10:5-11 (NIV)
Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.
Read the colored underlined italic part. My answer to this would be so that He may give them as examples for the others.

For example the angels: 1/3 rebelled. Why did God create them then? According to the principle from 1 Cor 10 He created them as an example for the other 2/3. They’d end up punished and the rest, who obeyed, would learn they made the right choice.

Why did God create somce men if He knew they’d fall? To give them as examples for the others, in my opinion. It may not be the only reason, but it’s one of them.

Perhaps you should take a close look at your carefully constructed large print tag lines.

Or get a trusted female friend to read your posts and provide feedback. What you get back will help you evaluate the trustworthiness of the friend.
Well now, that’s offensive! And RUDE! Thanks a lot…

*But actually I’m perfectly happy with my “carefully constructed large print tag lines.” I like being artsy!

(This thread is a year old, but i never read greylorn’s post…)
