Why did God make ugly people?

Not people who are conventionally unattractive, I know that is rather subjective. But those who are disfigured, with deformities etc…I have a friend whose face is slightly disfigured and even though it’s purely just cosmetic, like it doesn’t affect her health, she has a hard time accepting it, nobody thinks she is pretty unless they look at her from a certain angle. I personally am not deformed or anything, I just look unfortunate but at least I can look decent if I try hard enough…my friend’s features will look “weird” as she calls it…

I know this is a trivial question, that physical beauty is fleeting, but i feel bad because she has no confidence and she hates pictures being taken and she doesn’t like talking to anyone. it sucks because she’s actually funny and sweet. crazy smart too. it sucks because i know beauty is a gift so why does god give it to some only?

I kind of have an…um deformity as you know. Purely cosmetic too. Surgery cannot completely make me look normal too.

I don’t know if God made me look this way, or he let satan pick out my features, or it’s just poor genetics, but at the end of the day…it ain’t gonna change anything.

But if you want to know my opinion-I think it just happens, fallen nature and all that. I don’t think God cares if someone looks like a mole rat or Beyonce. I don’t know is beauty is a gift.

Focus on being a good friend to her, let her vent to you about it. Life sucks when people look at you strangely. I don’t know if it’s possible to move on, especially if you live in a 1st world country with gorgeous models etc. Just be a good friend, encourage her to take little steps (eg make small talk with another friend)
 
That is a good question, I hear many people say things like “well life is not fair”, but when certain people are knockout gorgeous with no physical flaws at all, seems like life has been more than fair to them!

I remember when I was younger, it was easy to tell someones heritage, whether they were Irish, german, etc. ethnic features were fairly prominent with most people, but the more I notice today, that is not the case, all those ethnic features have been filtered down and diluted to the point of most people looking the same.

And to be honest, I have not seen that many younger people today that are truly ugly, its much less than it was back when I was in high school for sure.
 
This is just my opinion and I don’t know that it’s backed by definitive Church teaching, though I don’t think it conflicts with Church teaching. I think that God designed us all with a beauty that we can’t even perceive in this lifetime. Those who seem “ugly” only appear that way because of the fallen nature of the world and the limits of our mortal senses. When we are all united with our glorified bodies, we will see ourselves and one another as God intended us to be and it will all make sense. As to why God allows this, I think perhaps it teaches us compassion, fortitude, and maybe gives us some clarity as to what is truly important.
 
The human body is natural, and nature knows nothing of fairness.

God for whatever reason has chosen to allow nature to run its course when it comes to our bodies.

We all have to play with the hand we’re dealt. And it seems at times, oddly enough in a way, that our hand is even tailored to our particular calling and personality. And beauty isn’t always such a blessing BTW. Good looking people are often treated with a respect or given a status which isn’t based on true worth, but on fleeting values. They don’t have to strive to win approval; their characters may tend to end up underdeveloped, shallow, less than beautiful on the inside.
 
“Ugly” is a relative term.

Edit: I just read the entire post. If you’re talking about deformities, that opens up a whole new can of worms. Why are there diseases? Why are there mental illnesses? These are questions that we can never fully answer.

Not to sound trite, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, God; therefore we aim to please Him with the beauty He gave us. The way you describe your friend, she is truly beautiful. Ask her to seek God, the only thing that matters. Some of the world’s ‘most beautiful’ people are troubled souls seeking empty worldly riches, fame, etc.

No one is “ugly” to God. We are all made in His image and likeness. not our bodies but our souls. When you look at the lifestyles of some of the so called beautiful people in this world I often wonder what must their souls look like??? If those who consider themselves “ugly or deformed” on the outside will stay close to God on the inside, He will reward them with such beauty in Heaven that will last for Eternity!!! Maybe some of the Beautiful will wish they hadn’t been so “beautiful”!! God Bless. Memaw
 
because theres a description for everything, if something is fat, something is thin, is someething is nice, something is dirty, is something is big, something is small, just becuase they are not beautiful doesnt make them ugly, even an ugly person can be beautiful in my opinion, even something crooked or not straight etc is beautiful, descriptions are the perceptions of individuals
 
If you have a mirror in your home,sit in front of it.Look at yourself,no really look.What looks back at you is unique,you may not like what you see but it is an expression of HIM.Everyone is an expression of the randomness of being.If youjudge everyone this way,you haven’t seen the beauty in yourself.
 
We live in a very looks obsessed age. In another society this may not be so much of an issue for her. It’s a shame it’s the way it is, I think maybe we have such busy lives we almost don’t have the time to go deeper with others and so it’s all about looks and first impressions.

Physical beauty has been and is the ruination of many spiritually, and many regarded as unattractive have risen to the status of saints, much loved, and loved much;l eg. Mother Theresa of Calcuta. The world loves the superficial, and instead of giving God the glory, looks to itself and claims for itself something that He gave as if it was their own. All things pass, what is important is that we live a virtuous life, where the true beauty lies, a corresponding to God’s grace merited by Jesus whose Spirit perfects all things.
 
Physical beauty is finally disappointing because our skin, when used to live life in, wears out like everything else in this world. So do the muscles, hair follicles and other body appurtenances by which we define “beauty” in human life.

So we can’t count on physical beauty in this life.

But our spiritual bodies, (pneumatikon soma) will be everlastingly beautiful. Hopefully, we won’t even need to wear clothes!

Sometimes the curse is also a blessing.

I spent most of my life not being very attractive due to my weight. It led me to have a different view on people and a different lifestyle through my university years (not exactly going clubbing 1/2 naked and picking up every night sort of thing).

Well then I lost 100lbs and got ‘hot’. And my life became a train-wreck, lol - Tho it was fun at first. The non-stop attention, the 1/2 naked bar-star lifestyle and lots of good looking men. I didn’t spend any time on my spiritual life.

Well I’ve plumped back up again and have been humbled. My focus is back on God and I converted to Catholicism. It turned out being hot didn’t make me happy, who know!
That’s not to say I’m super happy about my weight, but God gave me an inch and I stole a mile when He let me be attractive for 5 years. Anyways, my 2 cents. God Bless.

If everyone is beautiful, then nobody is beautiful. If there are tall people, there are short people. If there are fat people, there are thin people. You get the idea. Op is strictly talking about physical beauty (definition of beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.)
 
Most people are average not ugly. There are a few beautiful people. Even rarer, extremely beautiful people. Outside of Hollywood. If you are worried about finding a mate, most women aren’t exceptionally beautiful and they get married. I don’t think God made people ugly. Genetics, diet, etc.
 
I had to have my toes taped together to learn how to walk. I’m a little offended by the OP.:mad:
