Why did God make us?

This is the answer the Baltimore Catechism gives:
God made me to know him, to love him, and to serve him in this world, and to be happy with him forever in heaven.
Because God did not need to create us, the twentieth-century lay Catholic apologist Frank Sheed said that God made us because we would like it. And, as all creation exists, in part, to give God glory, in a sense we were created to glorify God. That glory does not add to his perfection, but it does serve to demonstrate his love.
