Why did God make

They weren’t meant to be pests. One of the consequences of the fall of Adam and Eve.
 
Lice can only survive on a human host. So without people, no lice. Must be God’s sense of humor.

Wasps, Hornets and Yellow-jackets might be useful for pollination.
 
I will say a prayer for the safety of the insects and parasites of the Earth from your fly swatter.

If you have every read Corrie Ten Boom’s the Hiding place, there is a part where Corrie and her sister have been sent to a concentration camp. They are put in a cramped room filled with bunks where they are all packed together like sardines. Everyone in there is cross and mad, so they decide to pray and they thank God for everything they can think of. Corrie’s sister then insists that they include in the prayer all the disgusting bugs while Corrie thinks that there is no reason to thank God for the bugs. But Corrie does pray for the bugs. Then over time they begin to bring peace to the warehouse they sleep in, and because the guards don’t ever come in, they are able to pray and worship God and read from Bibles they smuggled in. Later on, Corrie finds out from one of the guards that the only reason they are able to pray and worship in there is because the guards were scared they would get lice. We may never know though how much good comes from these critters. Our Lord does work in mysterious ways.

These things, when they harm humans, are physical evils. Physical evils exist as a result of moral evil, which in turn results from the misuse of our free wills.

That doesn’t mean these species would not have existed if no one had ever sinned. They just would not harm human beings.

Regarding lice and other parasites for whom human beings are the only hosts, perhaps when Adam and Eve were alive there were other animals much closer to humans than anything currently living, which could have served as hosts for these things. Then once mankind fell we became susceptible as well, and the rest is history. :yukonjoe:

I dunno why, food for other animals and birds? Polination, disease prevention? Mosquitos carry blood from one animal to the next maybe that allows them to develop immunities, that allow us to figure out how to replicate them.

The lice and bed bugs, um…🤷

Mosquitoes are important pollinators and food for other animals. They also carry disease, which is not good for the thing that gets infected but very good for the disease organism itself and it’s God’s creature too (though it becomes an evil if it infects a human).
 
These pests may be pests as a consequence of the fall, but they are still part of God’s plan. Rather than trying to find a “good” purpose for each animal let’s accept God’s will, patiently endure, and alleviate when we can, any suffering they may bring, accepting it as a consequence of our sins. Good does eventually come out of patiently suffering you know.
 
There’s a similar thread running in the Catholic Wasp’s Forum asking why God made us. Seems like we are their pests… Perspective perhaps? 😃

They eat caterpillars that eat crops.
 
Mosquitoes are a punishment for sin. They don’t pollinate anything.
