Why did God only pick the Jews for his message?

So was the tree of life not a test for Adam and Eve? Did God not know the outcome of what they would do? Or was it just put their for an excuse for original sin which He intended for us to have from the start?

Did God not know what the outcome of his laws would be before the Great Flood, or Sodom and Gomorrah? Did he not know what the outcome would be before he sent Jesus to inhabit the earth?

God gave us free will to either abide by his laws or not. Perfect reason to “test” man as to where they really stand regarding their God.

Interesting read.

Would be curious to see a timeline of when this happened worldwide as opposed to the size of the culture. To see how close the correlation is to the religions we are most familiar with. Were there simply hundreds of years difference in when the deities began or thousands of years, and whether they seem to spread from a central area or simply popped up on their own.

Yes, Warren Carroll (RIP), the great Catholic historian said in his first volume if The History of Christendom, it is never mire obvious than what God intended, simply by placing a map of the Eastern Hemisphere on the world and looking at Palestine, He literally chose the center if the world.

No quarrel with the great Dr Carroll. I knew him personally. As he always said, “truth exists — the Incarnation happened”.

There is a Jewish tradition that that many were offered God’s message but rejected it. Only the Jews accepted it.

From one of my earlier posts on the thread.

" Or did he make an attempt and they simply ignored his calling, which is why there are no historical record of it?"

But why would God ignore those not in the Eastern Hemisphere? We are all created in his image right.

Might be a slight bias towards that part of the world based on history.

It’s possible that Mary, the Mother of God, was a Jew and the most perfect woman to be the one that would say “Yes” in place of Eve’s “No”. So God just traced back her lineage via David/Moses/Abraham and started working with these people so the world would be ready for her son. Born into a place where the word could spread throughout the world.

Since the beginning of the Bible . . . the Jews were God’s chosen people.

Where in the scriptures is this? In a sense, as for worldy power, I suppose it us correct. But they were certainly not culturally a lowly people. Indeed, you will not find an ancient people who had a more developed and refined base of literature, particularly written literature. Also, by the time if Christ the Jews were dispersed in every major city around the Mediterranean and beyond, with many admirers. They were not a proselytizing religion, yet everywhere people were wanting to convert, just because if there higher way of living.

All this is not to say why God chose them,. God did not so much choose them as create and form them for the explucit purpose of fostering His son.

Not really, the people in the Western hemisphere were largely cut off, at that time were certainly not as advanced, did nit have the widespread communication networks established. God’s plan for the “fullness of time” seems quite obvious:. Have the greek culture and language spread far and wide , through the truly unique conqueror Alexander. Have a large portion of civilization controllers and regulated through the Roman Empire. Then, although not perfect for the rapid spread of Christianity, likely as good as it could get considering the fallen nature of man.

@tafan2

“For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
Deuteronomy 7:6-8

If you are quoting that because I said “God did not so much choose them as…”, point taken (and was expected). My point is that Gid chose them by making them a people, via Abraham, and then a religion, via Moses.

The Hebrews were small and meek and didn’t possess worldly power.

God often prefers to work through weak vessels because that better demonstrates his saving power. Women were mostly invisible back in the day and God uses them multiple times to deliver the Israelites. David was favored by God despite his meekness compared to Saul. Etc.

The Jews at the time if Christ were quite numerous. IIRC 20% of Alexandria were jews, a city if a million people. The Romans killed 1,000,000 Jews when they destroyed Jerusalem in AD 79. Another 500,000 were killed I the Jewish wars 50 years later. I will go back and look in Johnson’s History if the Jews, but I believe he estimated there were well over 5 million throughout the Roman Empire. Nnit small or meek at all.

The Jews were small and meek compared to neighboring empires. Much of the Biblical narrative involves them being occupied by one oppressor to another.

Back to my thoughts that God was using them as a test of true human nature.

Our true nature comes out in the worst of times.
