well … eating pork in the desert is never a good idea 😉

seriously, if you look at it, there is cermonial reasons, but not to forget there is what we figure to be common sense reasons like the one I said but back then there was no history for people to know any better. We today have the benefit of yrs of knowledge.

Just like sitting outside of camp for a week, then the priest lets you in if he decides. He decides on the basis of health because things spread quickly and with no vaccines, it was the only way to control a outbreak.

Then science found out later that germs take a week or so to develop, that God Hes smart, even knows how germs work.🙂

Thank you for your help.
Basically because these foods are dangerous if they’re not prepared properly. How many people today get sick on oysters gone bad, not even including those who are allergic to them? There is a logic behind every one of God’s commands. Even if there were not eternal consequences at stake, following the rules set out in the Bible and elaborated by the Church is a really good idea for secular/temporal reasons.

Not only the illness factor, but there are practical reasons too. Remember they were living and travelling in a very dry area - pigs need a lot of water to survive.

my thought is that God is training His people to be disciplined. To give up the old way, beginning from the way they eat. And to accept the new way, mana, his food.

As noted before, pigs need water. And the Israelites are on the move to the Promised Land. They can’t stop and settle down to a nearby river. Forbiding raising and eating pigs is to prevent the Israelites stopping at the first water source.

Tak

the Israelites proved they needed remedial obedience lessons when they broke the 10 commandments. they needed to have them written on stone tablets in the first place because of their stony hearts, which had already rejected the commandments which are written in every human heart. Because they could not keep the 10, they were given the further particular and onerous laws of Leviticus (over 600) to teach them in small things, particular specific things to teach them obedience in larger general applications of the decalogue.

Pigs and humans share more parasites in common than any other animal used by humans for food. I remember this being mentioned in a parasitology course in college. The dietary laws of the Israelites were mentioned in the course.
