Why did Holy Father Resign?

If I had a dime for every time Benedict inspired me, I would be a very wealthy man. šŸ™‚
 
Now that Iā€™ve recovered from this announcement and slept over it I see the wisdom in in.

By resigning now the Holy Father has a better say in choosing a traditional successor. This will greatly enhance the Churchs divinely inspired objective of adoring God and saving souls over the championing of social issues for the base reason of achieving political power.

A traditional Pope coupled with the future mass retirement of those V-2, buzz bomb like, 5th column, draft dodging, all too tolerant, leftist reformers, will return the church to her former glory.
 
Yes, it was an act of great humility. But it could also be an act of great trust and obedience. This is a Pope who is a great man of prayer. Regardless of his health, he would not make this decision unless he felt led by God.

Did he fail? Well, the modern thinkers will probably answer with a resounding ā€œyesā€. But in the end, he does not have to answer to the modern thinkers, he has to answer to God. And I believe that to the best of his ability, he has done everything God has asked him to do.
 
The Vicar of Christ ultimately cannot make a mistaken decision on such a critical matter as the guidance of the Church. The Holy Spirit, who guided his blessed predecessor to remain until the very end, guided him to take this step, and will soon chose a new Holy Father.

John 23rd might have meant well, was a good man but he was not particularly a smart man and was so swayed and manipulated by the cardinals.

Benedictā€™s resignation was a surprise but it was prophesied by many. We may never know the real reason. I really donā€™t think health is the issue because he probably would not have accepted the position in the first place as he actually wanted to retire while John Paul 2 was still alive. I think he wanted to make a difference but alas could not.

I have never heard of this. Do you have documentation of this?

The reason I ask is because he died 7 months after it opened so I am not sure why he would say such a thing?

I just want to make sure itā€™s not an urban legend. Thanks. šŸ™‚

There was a time not so long ago that the Pope never left the Vatican. The physical demands of a Pope have increased over the past decades, esp since JPII. And that includes travel.

Pope Benedict was recently told by his doctors that he can not do transatlantic travel. Which means no World Youth Day among other things.

I can see why he took this to prayer, with his conscience, before the Lord. A Pope now a days can not just stay cooped up in the Vatican.

That is very hard on any 85 year old.

I think itā€™s sad that people are not taking the Holy Father at his words. That they think he is hiding something, or being misleading, or just being false to his flock.

Take this humble holy man at his word. He feels his aging body and mind can not do what is needed for the Church and Her needs in the 21 Century.

And pray for him. šŸ™‚

Faustinaā€™s friend, I couldnt edit my last post concerning this but I just wanted to point out in case you were unaware, Pope Paul VI could have shut down VII after he was elected Pope after John XXIII died. He was under no obligation to continue.

Im not sure how many people are aware of that. šŸ‘

When one is the age of our Pope, even a few years can make a huge difference in oneā€™s health. Why look for something other than what the Holy Father himself said. He is not physically up to the rigors of the job.
 
H.H. Pope Benedict XVI is almost 86 (DOB April 16, 1927). Only three pope attained a greater age: Leo XIII (93 years, 140 days), Clement XII (87 years, 305 days), and Clement X (86 years, 9 days).
