well?I could tell you what Luther DIDN’T want to do…
well?I could tell you what Luther DIDN’T want to do…
He didn’t want to start up a new church, which would devolve into 100’s of churches (I know 37,000 has been quoted, but I’m aware of over 100 major denominations. That’s way too much, wouldn’t you agree?).well?
If the devil’s hands can be seen in the reformation, they can be seen moving people on both sides to swell up with pride. if the Council had taken place earlier (In Luther’s life time) we might not be having this conversation.Originally Posted by NotWorthy forums.catholic-questions.org/images/buttons_cad/viewpost.gif

But as they say, **Number one rule **when you make a deal with the devil: You Don’t. This is not to say that Luther made a deal with the devil. But he was swept up by groups of people with a bigger agenda (in their minds).
I understand that the Protestant Old Testament is the same as the one the Jews use. In many old Protestant Bibles - especially large pulpit-size ones - the apocryphal books are squeezed between the Old and New Testaments.
Did I just read this weekend in the press that the Vatican is thinking of re-thinking Luther and perhaps recognizing his just gripes? That will be interesting after centuries of condemning him as some sort of evil, renegade priest who violated his ordination vows and, like Satan, led a rebellion against the One True Church!
It's time that Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox stop this foolishness that makes Christ grieve and work together as fellow Christians. Doctrinal and liturgical unity are not essential. I believe it was John Wesley who said 'think and let think' and 'if you love God as I love God, take my hand.'
First of all, I said the devil comment was an analogy. If the devil’s hands can be seen in the reformation, they can be seen moving people on both sides to swell up with pride.
Well, it all depends on how you say it. The Church wasn’t teaching anything wrong. Individuals in the Church were abusing some practices, if I remember correctly.if the Council had taken place earlier (In Luther’s life time) we might not be having this conversation.
really as a RC you should be greatful for what Luther did. didn’t it lead to the RC church purging some of the abuses Luther protested about?
First, do you think all 95 are right?I am curious, what part of the 95 do you NOT agree with?

I said IF, my point was that the reformation was not a one sided affair. But, do you realize that you just said the Reformation WAS the work of the devil.
Ok maybe the Church was not officallyWell, it all depends on how you say it. The Church wasn’t teaching anything wrong. Individuals in the Church were abusing some practices, if I remember correctly.
I’m sorry, I was late and in a hurry this morning (funny, I got Daylight Savings Time, I just forget to set my alarm). I missed the “if” in your statement.I said IF, my point was that the reformation was not a one sided affair.
The more I think of the 95 points, the more I realize that this needs another thread. If you start one, please PM an invite to me.Ok maybe the Church was not officallyteaching anything wrong, but when Luther pointed out the abuses he was basiclly told know your place and get back in line.
Was Tetzel a heretic? Was he allowed to remain in the dominican order?

Later Edited:* Ah, I see. I was more worried that you might think I was saying Luther made a deal with the devil. I didn’t want to imply that at all.*
But just saying “Sorry your’e wrong” still isn’t the proof… solid proof…it has always been my understanding the books listed above were added, at the Council of Trent, after Luthers death!!![]()
A simple look at history proves it. I submit 3 evidences. The final one is a look at the Septuagint, the scripture that is most quoted in the New Testament. But just saying “Sorry your’e wrong” still isn’t the proof… solid proof…![]()
