When you Google> { Pope Benedict XVl denies Jesus is the Christ [Messiah].} There is a video showing what the Pope wrote and his relation with Israel. He wrote that there are very good reasons why Jesus is not the the true Messiah as the Jewish People Claim.
That Salvation with God can be found through the Old Testament Covenent.

Why would the Pope do this by casting doubt who Jesus was ?

Answer - he did no such thing!

I would advise you to read all three of his books Jesus of Nazareth. You must not believe every statement you read or view on the internet!

I have not seen this video, but I can assure you, that there is NO WAY Pope Benedict XVI would have done this. In fact, he would be the LAST person who would ever do this!

What made you want to start googling that phrase to begin with?

Pope Benedict’s 3 books on Jesus are written as a scripture scholar; there is nothing in scripture that would support the idea that Jesus is not the Messiah. Quite the contrary.

Obviously Jews now and the people then didn’t all understand that Jesus was the Messiah foretold in the Hebrew Bible (OT). Pope Benedict may have been commenting on that fact, and even explaining how that might be so, but he obviously believes that Christ is the Messiah and taught us all to believe that as well.

It sounds to me unbelievable that Pope Benedict would cast doubt that Jesus is the Messiah. You must have interpreted what he said incorrectly. Besides, such a statement would also show lack of knowledge regarding Judaism, which does NOT believe in the concept of salvation through the Covenant or any other means in the same way Christians do.

Somebody out there is selling waterfront property in Arizona again… :dancing:

I wonder if it is a video from the Dimond Brothers. That would explain it if it is since they are sedevacantists.

I checked it out and it doesn’t say where the video is from. So mea culpa to the Dimond Bros. It doesn’t appear to be them.

Some of the comments are priceless though. 😃

My understanding is that Judaism believes Christ is the Messiah for the Gentiles, but that the Jewish Messiah has not come yet; perhaps something like that was said?

Judaism doesn’t believe Jesus was the Messiah at all, at least that’s my understanding.

This is a Michael Diamond production. He is or was a Sedevacanist and is separated from the Catholic Church, he rejects Vatican 2, and both John Paul ll and Benedict XVl. He has twisted and interpreted their words and actions to suite his purposes. Don’t worry about it, just another loud mouth. Linus2nd

That is correct. My point, however, was that if Pope Benedict had said what is claimed, which I seriously doubt, he would have betrayed lack of understanding of what is meant by salvation according to Jewish teaching, namely that Judaism does NOT believe we are in need of salvation in the Christian sense, but rather personal atonement for our sins. IOW, the Messiah, according to Jewish understanding, is not meant to bring individual salvation by taking upon himself the sins of humanity. Instead, he is meant to bring peace among the nations of the world and universal knowledge of G-d’s existence and authority. In Judaism, “salvation” is a personal matter between Man and G-d, and is not based on either the Messiah or the Covenant; nor is the essence of salvation thought of in terms of an afterlife, but rather practicing G-d’s Will by means of one’s moral behavior according to the Law.

Christ did say your Jewish scriptures testify of Him. John 5:39-40…How Can it be Personal Atonement for our Sins. Isaiah 53 Show it was Christ who did Atonement for our Sins. ?

I did not google that phrase. I just happened to come across the video on youtube. The title of the video does take things a bit too far by saying the Pope denies Jesus as the Christ. [Messiah]. The Pope is not exactly doing that when you look at what he supposed to have written in his books.
He is Just saying there are very good reasons why it is believed that Jesus is not the messiah as Christians believe. In other words Jewish People have very good reasons why they believe this. That is is Possible that what the Jewish People say could be True.

If I came across a video with a title like that, I wouldn’t even waste my time watching it.

Yes but the Jewish understanding Isaiah 53 is different from the way Christians understand it. Also most Jews have never read John and so forth.

He is not saying that what the Jewish people say could be true. There is no question of it being true. He is saying that their lack of belief in Jesus as the Messiah is not a malicious refusal to believe, but based on a genuine inability to accept Him due to their (wrong) assumptions.

I clicked on the link and got a screen that said video not available. Apparently it was taken down.

What I meant is that I’m almost sure that the very well-educated Pope Benedict understands the Jewish position regarding the Messiah–including the Jewish interpretation of Isaiah–and therefore (besides the fact the Pope would NEVER deny Jesus to be the Messiah), his making such a statement would not make sense based on Jewish belief regarding the meaning of salvation. IOW, salvation according to Judaism is not to be achieved by the Covenant or the Messiah. It has a very different meaning in Judaism and the Pope knows this.
