Why did the Apostles still doubt after Pentecost?

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
Matthew 28:16-20

If even the Apostles doubted the resurrection after repeatedly seeing Jesus in person after the fact, can we really trust that Jesus really resurrected? I thought Pentecost removed this doubt from them?

Oh. I thought it occurred after since Pentecost was celebrated last week.

This passage from Matthew 28 is an account of the Ascension, which was before Pentecost.

It is the Gospel reading for today, Trinity Sunday, because of the reference to the Holy Trinity, as well as the Trinitarian character of the Ascension.

Everything in the Gospels is before Pentecost. Pentecost occurs in the Acts of the Apostles.

From “The Great Biblical Commentary of Cornelius A’ Lapide”
And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him, but some doubled.
Not of the eleven Apostles, but of the other disciples. For all the Apostles had now been confirmed by so many visions and proofs, that they did not doubt that Christ had risen. Or if any one prefers to refer this expression to the Apostles, it must be understood as meaning, They had before doubted, but were not now in doubt. So Theophylact says, “You ought to understand it as meaning that when they were come into Galilee they worshipped Him; but they who worshipped Him in Galilee had first doubted in Jerusalem.”

I still doubt now sometimes, so I understand why they did.

To me, it adds to the believability of the gospels. Generally speaking, you aren’t going to make up things that make you out to be in a bad light.

I don’t think they doubted that he was risen from the dead. I think they doubted that they would start the Catholic Church and go and spread the word of God to others. Have you ever felt that God wanted you or was asking you to do something and you doubted, but thought “how the hell will I do that? Am I crazy?”
