If you read a little history you will soon learn that much of what it written after the fall of Rome and before the Enlightenment leaves a lot to be desired by way of documentation. Often what is accepted is simply the writer’s personal opinion with little foundation. Exaggeration is the norm. An enormous amount is simply revisionism meant to assuage or outrage current social mores at a given time and place. Also, don’t forget, winners get to write the history. So, take it all with a big grain of salt.
