Why did the Northern Kingdom fall first?

They didn’t have Jerusalem, the Temple, nor the legitimate heir to the throne.

Among other things. šŸ™‚

United Monarchy
The united Kingdom of Israel is said to have existed from about 1030 to about 930 BCE. It was a union of all the twelve Israelite tribes living in the area that presently approximates modern Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Division

After the death of Solomon in about 931 BCE, all the Israelite tribes except for Judah and Benjamin (called the ten northern tribes) refused to accept Rehoboam, the son and successor of Solomon, as their king.[4]
The rebellion against Rehoboam arose after he refused to lighten the burden of taxation and services that his father had imposed on his subjects.[5]
Jeroboam, who was not of the Davidic line, was sent for from Egypt by the malcontents.[6]
The Tribe of Ephraim and all Israel raised the old cry, ā€œEvery man to his tents, O Israelā€.[7]
Rehoboam fled to Jerusalem,[8][9] and in 930 BCE (some date it in 920 BCE), Jeroboam was proclaimed king over all Israel at Shechem.
After the revolt at Shechem at first only the tribe of Judah remained loyal to the house of David. But very soon after, the tribe of Benjamin joined Judah.
The northern kingdom continued to be called the Kingdom of Israel or Israel, while the southern kingdom was called the kingdom of Judah.
2 Chronicles 15:9[10] also says that members of the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon fled to Judah during the reign of Asa of Judah.
Both Eusebius and Josephus place the division in 997 BCE - lunar dates of Venus can be mistaken as 64 years earlier. (Crossing of sun over Mars as Tamuz would be 10 July 997 BCE.)
Shechem was the first capital of the Kingdom of Israel.[11] Afterwards it was Tirzah.[12]
King Omri built his capital in Samaria (16:24), which continued as such until the destruction of the Kingdom by the Assyrians (2 Kings 17:5).
During the three-year siege of Samaria by the Assyrians, Shalmaneser V died and was succeeded by Sargon II of Assyria, who himself records the capture of that city thus:
ā€œSamaria I looked at, I captured; 27,280 men who dwelt in it I carried awayā€ into Assyria.
Thus, around 720 BCE, after two centuries, the kingdom of the ten tribes came to an end.

When Jeroboam set up the Northern kingdom, he was afraid that if the people continued to worship in Jerusalem they would reunite with the southern kingdom. In order to prevent this he set up two shrines in Israel where his people were to worship. He put statues of golden calves in them for the people to worship. (I Kings 26-29)

A Priestly friend of mine, US - Southern to his toe tips, put it this way:

ā€œIn Biblical Israel, as in North America, the southern side was the Godly side.ā€:)šŸ™‚

Biblically, that was true about Israel. Judah kept the temple, the priests, the sacrifice and the royal line of David. The North had none of the appurtenances of the true covenant.

It took the life of our LORD, born in Judaea, raised in Galilee (north) and returned to Judaea to die, to reunite the 2 sides.

Remember that the southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin were little better than the ten northern tribes. Sure, the south kept the temple and sacrifice, but they too went into exile, the temple was destroyed and sacrifice stopped.

It was by God’s grace and His faithfulness to his covenant that Judah was spared for the eventual advent of Christ. God only brought Judah back to the land to show his strength and his glory but even then their hearts were far from God, even going so far as to have their circumcision reversed to hide their Jewishness. (cf 1 Macabees 1:15).

With abortion, contraception, and everything else out there, I fear sometimes that we as a society are little better than them.

If by ā€œweā€ you mean USA, I’d say we are ā€œnoā€ better than them. They had the temple, but they fell into sin, we have our LORD, but as the the lady said in Jesus Christ Superstar, we ā€œdon’t know how to love Him.ā€

It’s not just about young women having abortions, either. It’s easy to be a neo-Pharisee (especially if one is male) and harp on abortion, but we’d do much better to get our penance and prayer life up to date.

look more specifically how it is fulfilled today: In the OT, the kingdom of God was split between North and South, the North taking most of the twelve tribes with it, and yet leaving the ultimate kingship and true kingdom in the South.

Funny, are not the twelve apostles a fulfillment of the twelve tribes? And how many Sees did the Apostles leave? Was it not Five?

And was there not a Schism in this New Covenant approximately 1000 years ago. But was it North / South, or East / West?

And strangely enough, is it a coincidence that the ones who were truly in Schism took MOST of the Apostolic Sees, i.e., the East took 4 of the 5? And yet, was not the TRUE ULIMTATE KING AND KINGDOM left in the remnant West, Peter?

And who went into exile under a beast from hell first? Was it not the EAST, as predicted by FATIMA? DId not the Orhodox kingdoms go under atheistic materialism a century ago? And if the South did not repent after seeing their schismatic sister go into chastisement, has the West repented of seeing Her Schismatic sister in the East go into exile under a spiritual beast, atheistic materialism? And therefore, i say unto you, so we, in the West, will have a Babylonian exile, namely, relativistic materialism, seeing as we did not repent like the SOUTH!

Why did the Northern Kingdom fall first?

Simply because the promise of the Covenant was with Judah. Period.

I guess this is a local joke but not being American I’m curious as to what this means.

OK.

There is an intense cultural rivalry between the NE and SE quarters of USA; originating in the 1800s, when most Americans lived in those areas. The ā€œOld Southā€ is also a much more religious area than the USA as a whole; sometimes referred to as ā€œthe Bible Belt.ā€

Add to that the fact that in the mid 1800s an attempt was made to forcibly divide the country into North and South (as in Biblical Israel), and, although in our case it didn’t divide, the parallel is clear.

Also, closer to the Assyrians. General rule of thumb in ancient times… stay away from the Assyrians! 😃

Okay. I know about the civil war and I’ve heard of the Bible Belt. I just hadn’t realised the northern part of the US was considered ungodly.

The liberal mind-set, and all that goes with it, is much more prevalent in the Northeast (and also California out west).

It isn’t, really, unless you ask someone from the South:):)šŸ™‚
