Why did we need a New Mass?

If it include the text in English or Italians, it was an unapproved book. (BTW, alot of Italians in Massachusetts were Repubican, not because they were right wing but because the Democratic Party was too dominated by the Irish. The late Congressman Silvo Conte was one of these.)

I can’t see how you can do a Low Mass under an hour nevermind 20 miutes as you have said on other threads.

He married an Irish woman so wrong again. He loved the Irish and sang a great Danny Boy. Some of his family disowned him for maryring a Irish woman. He was Republican because he didn’t agree with democratic policy.
His communion missal was English and Latin. It was perchased in a Catholic book store in Boston.

I agree, I have been to high and low masses and the low mass ran about a an hour and half. I went to a high mass last week that ran 2 hours, as the Priest was talking about the Tsunami, sodom and Gomorrah, and how we are all accountable to God for our actions here on earth. He also said how these countries specialize in selling children into sex, and that all of the same liberal groups out there who are trying to outdo one another in how much money they are giving to these “victims” are the same liberal groups responsible for millions of abortions each year.

Needless to say, I LOVE hearing traditional teachings and homilies,and hear about Sin and accountability to God, instead of Jesus and Love like I hear when I go to my local Novus Ordo Parish.

Katherine2 I prefer to hug a conservative. My Republican grandfather had a missal way back in 1908. He was the son of Italian immigrants and his father who was a Boston Police officer was killed in the line of duty. He had no use for liberal clap trap about criminals. What a great man, he was a true visionary. In the 60 and 70’s when they Democrats sided with abortion he felt totally justified. He saw their moral decline long before JFK said he wouldn’t let his faith or the Church rule him.
The Church I go to is my mother’s childhood Parish. She said a Low Mass then ran about hour 10minutes to an hour 20minutes depending on the homily. A High Mass was about an hour 30-45 minutes which is the same as now. Now our admistrator who sometimes says Mass and has no use for us, no matter how fast he goes has never made it under an hour. I can’t see how you can do a Low Mass under an hour nevermind 20 miutes as you have said on other threads.

And that would also mean that the people in the pews in front of you are being totally irreverent because they turn their backs to you. And you’re being totally irreverent to the people behind you because you turn your back to them (especially during the sign of peace, in which you get to turn your back to just everybody, which makes it an equal-opportunity irreverence).

I haven’t yet decided whether the people sitting in the pews beside you are being totally irreverent, since they just turn their sides to you and not their backs.

Yah but who is the one saying the mass? the congregation or the priest??

Anecdotal evidence. Well, I’ve talked some older people at Tridentine parish that were alive then and Don’t remember it that way.

I am currious why you think this? What about the Mass (NO is not the proper term for the Mass) makes it more suseptible to abuse?

And the results or fruits, of the “reform” are becoming evident and sad in weaking of the members of the Body of Christ.

I think your wrong about the fruits–It is too early to judge the fruits of the Council. Many things were implemented wrong or abuses perpetrated but I see this swinging back and a renewed and strengthened Church coming. I see many promising signs–vocations are up, I see many young people and families hungry for the faith, I see Bible studies poping up, I see a return to devotions and with this I see a greater emphasis on community and sharing our faith journey–which is much better than the Church of my youth–where you could sit next to the same person at Mass for 20 years and never really learn who they were–what kind of community was that? Was that loving your neighbor? Now its been about 40 years since Vatican II give it another 40 years and I think you’ll be surprised at the Church. I don’t see all the doom and gloom so many here seem too.

I don’t think any of these are fruits of VAT II… Rather, I think they are in response to the abuses by the laity and the clergy that stemmed from the misinterpretations of VAT II.

Perhaps that was God’s plan in the first place.
