šŸ™‚ I had a Catholic father and my mother is baptist. My father had me baptised as an infant and my mother found out and would never allow him to take me anywhere near a Catholic Church after that. My mother hurt my father with her refusal and they ended up divorced. I really never learned about my Catholic ties, until I became an adult. I was raised Baptist.

My whole life though I felt called to the Catholic Church, I dated Catholic boys, I went to Mass with them. Everytime I entered into a Catholic Church I found such Peace as I cannot describe.

It was not until I became an independent adult who could read and go to Mass and study on her own, that I discovered the one true faith and where I belonged.

ā€œNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.ā€ Hebrews 11:1. ā€œWait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.ā€ Psalm 27:14 These verses have been very useful to me, and they explain why I became Catholic. I found my faith within the Catholic Church and I depend upon the Lord to strenghten my heart. God is so good to us.

Best decision of my life!!!šŸ‘

I converted because the Catholic church was the church that Jesus handed down through Apostolic succession and because of the True Presence of Jesus’ body and blood in the Eucharist.

**just focusing narrowly on the question…i’ve never ā€˜doubted’ that my conversion was right and the Church is the true Church.
to be honest, i am no where near as educated in the faith and it’s history as i SHOULD be…right now i’m just basking in knowing that i’m finally HOME.
i DO miss the passion of hellfire and brimstone preachers though and the hymns of my baptist life.
—Why become Catholic if believing in Christ and repenting is what we need to become Christians?—…there is usually an added ā€˜and get to heaven’ on it.
the Catholic church is the only place i have EVER heard that being forgiven does not mean the consequenses of your acts are not forgotten nor will punishment be negated.
one of the main complaints i heard (and hear) against Catholics is that they can do anything, pop into confession and go do it all over again. that is so far off that it’s laughable.
being a ā€˜christian’ is SO much more than asking for forgiveness and being dunked in a pool. there’s WORK to it.
Catholicism is not a spectator sport.
**
True. Many of us see Catholicism as a work’s based faith, but I don’t see it as such since James stated that faith without works is dead.

Heh, why did I convert to Catholicism? 'Cause God gave me a nice big kick in the… yeah.

Short story: I was a freshman in high school and an arrogant atheist who argued back and forth with a Catholic friend and two Mormon friends. I owned the arguments. But, I was jealous of their faith. Mormon friend gave me a Book of Mormon, which I read. Finally decided to fall to my knees in prayer. Knew that God was there. I was on the way to converting to Mormonism, learning all that I could… Yet, God was there, steering my path. He led me straight to the Holy Eucharist and I came running to the Church.

Long story: kayla23mount.blogspot.com/2007/07/my-conversion-from-beginning-to-where.html

I’ve had such an interesting journey and one that I know is no where near its finish.
Hey girlie!! Remember me?

Why? Because that is where the Lord guided me. šŸ™‚

Seriously, though, I was raised Southern Baptist, grew up in a town with a major SB University and went there for college. The funny thing is that as I grew up, I had Catholic friends and neighbors. Even the guys I was interested in were Catholic. šŸ˜‰ Someone had plans for this lass. I was drawn to Catholicism like a moth to a flame, but I reisisted. I even looked into Orthodoxy. Anything but Catholic! Finally, I decided to quit fighting what I was resisting. When I opened myself up, I found out that all my questions and objections to the CC were answered. The first time I went to Mass, the sense of peace ,joy, and being where I belonged was profound. I knew I was Home.

Yes, I did encounter doubts, but the Eucharist is what makes me stay. (As another has said.) . That and lots of prayer, not to mention the amazing answers I’ve gotten when I had doubts. WOW! :signofcross:

Why did I convert? First of all, I was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Our family always went to church regularly. Fast forward to1970. I met and fell in love with a catholic girl. We were married in a Catholic church. I started going to mass occasionally with my wife. And she would sometimes go with me to the Lutheran church. But not before she went to mass. This went on off and on for several years. Then we adopted our first child from Korea in 1981. So the question of how to raise the kids came up. Our son was baptised in the Catholic church. We adopted a baby girl three years later. It was after this that I began to consider membership in the Catholic church. After a while I found myself attending mass more often than I was going to the Lutheran church. My wife finally told me she thought I should get off the fence and go to one or the other. I decided to go and talk to our parrish priest about becoming Catholic. I signed up for RCIA. The two people that most influenced me were my wife and sister Carol Karnitsky who taught the RCIA class. We became good friends. For a while It seemed like forces were pulling me between Catholic and Lutheran. But the longer I went to RCIA and had my questions answered, the more I found myself leaning to the Catholic church. It just felt like the right thing to do. I think the Holy Spirit was working in me showing me the way. Like sister Carol once told me,ā€œSteve, God works in mysterious ways.ā€ That was about 20 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did, along with getting married.

Well thanks for asking! As you will note from the previous posters…Baptists seem to do a lot of converting and I will not break the mold, I came from the Baptist Church. I am not sure what we can draw from this but my priest told me that about 85% of converts are from the Baptist church.
I was uncomfortable with several concepts taught by Baptists and in fairness perhaps other denominations. 1. I was uncomfortable with the approach to communion. Inside somewhere I knew there was more to it and there is. 2. I was uncomfortable with the belief that all sin is the same in G-d’s eyes…gossip…adultery…the same and that nobody loses their ā€œsalvationā€, that is after one accepts Christ as his Lord and savior.
These are items that caused me to pick up a copy of the Catechism and after about 2 years of reading it and all the attendant Bible verses, I knew where I was going. I converted in 1998 at Easter vigil. I have not been followed by anyone in my sizeable family, including my wife but I am not at all discouraged.

My first encounter with the Catholic Church began in 1981 when I was married to a Catholic. At that time something about that relationship was not right. I drank quit heavily until my wife seperated from me because of the drinking. I deperatley wanted to stop but could not find the will. In an effort to try and save my marriage I started attending Mass and signed up for the R.C.I.A. program at another nearby Catholic Church. I desperatly wanted my Marriage to work out. Sometimes when I attended Mass I was still drinking, but I kept going, it was like God was drawing me to the church. I never was able to save my Marriage, but I continued to attend mass and at the Easter Vigil in 1983 I was accepted into the family of Catholics. With prayer and divine intervention, I eventually did quit drinking and have remained sober for over 20 years now. My first wife is long out of the picture now. I submitted the papers for an annulment and received it due to my addiction was definitly an impedimate to the Sacrament of Marriage. I since remarried(18 years later) in the United Church of Christ. Afew years ago my new wife went to my Parish Priest as a birthday gift and we had the Marriage convalidated, and after some confessions I was able to receive commuion again. Today I celebrated my 5 th wedding anniversay with my beautiful bride. Without my conversion to Catholicism, I am certain I would have ended up dead. I am most grateful to the Church that Jesus founded is an important part of my life. I am now a Deputy Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus, an Usher, and also on the money counting team. I have a lot to be thankful for and I know Jesus was right by my side through all of it. God bless you all and thanks for readying my story.

When I was a very young teenager, a group of us would walk past the Catholic church on our way to Sunday School. It was in the summer and the doors were open–we were fascinated by the candles and what we could see of the altar. One Sunday, instead of going to Sunday School we decided to go to Mass.

This was before Vatican II, so the Mass was in Latin, and I had absolutely no idea what was going on, but God reached down and touched me that morning, and I knew that this was real and that it was where I belonged. It took years of study, and overcoming obstacles, but I finally came Home…:signofcross:

That is an awesome testimony to the power of God.šŸ‘

SYRIAC ORTHODOX PATRIARCH OF ANTIOCH IS THE ACTUAL SUCCESSOR OF ST. PETER

From Bible We Know That Our Lord Has Given The Authority To

St.peter. Our Lord Says That He Will Build His Church On

Peter.
In The First Centuries, Bishop Of Antioch Was Superior To

All The Other Bishops In Rome And Alexandria. His Territory

Extended To All The Then Known Parts Of The World. Entire

Persia, India, Middle East, China Was Under The Control Of

Patriarch Of Antioch. If We Go Through The Historical

Documents He Was Regarded As The Succesor Of St. Peter. We

Can See Around 7 Letters Written By Ignatius, Bishop Of

Antioch To 7 Churches.
In The First Centuries There Was A Dispute Between Rome And

Antioch About The Successor Of Peter. If We Check The Bible,

There Is Nothing Said About The Authority Of Pope Or Rome.

Even You Check The Letter Of Paul To Romans. Nothing Is

Mentioned About The Primacy Of Roman Church.
There Is No Evidence That Peter Had Gone To Rome.
From Bible We Can Find That It Is Paul Who Had Founded The

Church Of Rome.
In The 4th And Fifth Centuries, Because Of The Influence Of

Byzantine Emperors, A New Patriarch Emerged At

Constantinople. Then The Emperor Tried To Destroy The Church

At Antioch. The Gave The Superiority To Patriarch Of

Constantinople.
In 1451, The Council Of Chalcedon Declared That The Pope Of

Rome Leo Is The Succesosr Of Peter And Head Of The Church.
After All These Events, In The 5th Century The Patriarch Of

Antioch Severus Was Deposed By The Byzantine Emperor. Those

Persons Who Accepted Pope Of Rome As The Head Were Appointed

As Bishops Of Antioch.
If We Check The Tradition And Liturgy Of Churches In India

And Middle East, We Can See That They Are Following

Antichene Tradition.
As A Result Proclaiming The Superiority Of Patriarch Of

Antioch, Jacob A Bishop Appointed Sergius Of Tella As The

Bishop Of Antioch. The Jacobite Patriarchs Then Came. They

Are The Actual Head Of The Christian Church.
We Must Know That These Europeans Are Actually Barbarians.

They Have No Culture. Now Also We Can See This. It Is Sure

That These Americans And Europeans Are Engahged In Sex With

Many People Even Before 13 Years Of Age. It Means That They

Have A Barbarian Tradition. But They Are Controllingt The

Economy Of The Whole World. They Are Propagating The Pope Of

Rome As Successor Of Peter. That Is Necessary For Their

Superiority And Existence Of Economic Power.
We Must Know The Fact That The Entire Middle East, Persia

Was Christian Before The 6 Th Century. They Were Under

Patriarch Of Antioch. Because Of Many Wars And Attack Of

Islam, Forceful Conversion By Islam Christianity In Middle

East, Persia Have Got Destroyed. The Patriarch Of Antioch

Was Under The Supervision Of Islamic Rulers.
The Colonial Invasion By British, Portugese , Dutch ,french

Resulted In The Forceful Conversion Of Those Who Were Under

The Control Of Patriarch Of Antioch To Roman Pope.
For Example, Portugese Forcefully Converted Christians Under

Antioch In India To Rome. French Forcefully Converted

Christians In Iraq Under Antioch To Roman Pope.
Through These 2000 Years It Is The Patriarch Of Antioch Who

Suffered Most. He Was In Caves Or Forests For Many Centuries

In Fear Of European Powers, Muslims, Byzantines.
If We Look At The History Of Roman Popes , Many Had

Children, Many Had Married, Many Had Children Before

Marriage, Many Became Popes At The Age Of 12 Or 13.
The Documents Now Qwe Have Proclaiming The Authority Of

Rome, Are All Fake. They Are False Documents Created During

The Reign Of Charlemagne, The 8 Th Century Roman Emperor Who

Saved Rome From Muslims.
The Reason Why All Are Proclaiming The Roman Pope Is Money

Only. The Roman Catholics Are Getting A Large Amount Money

From Europe. The Patriarch Of Anticoh Has Nothing.
In Short , The Patriarch Of Antioch Is The Successsor Of St.

Peter And Head Of The Church.
Now The Roman Pope Is Benedict 16. He Is One Of The Great

Persons Living In This World. He Is One Of The Great

Scholars In This Century. He Knows The Fact That Anticoh

Patriarch Is The Actual Head. From His Moves, We Have Got

The Perception That Something Will Take Place Soon. All The

Bishops And Historians In This World Know The Fact That

Patriarch Of Antioch Is The Peter’s Successor.

But Money Can Make A False True.
