Muslim sister, is this guy popular in the Muslim world? Personally, I’m not in the least persuaded by his testimony. He actually comes across as too ignorant. How can you not know what Islam is and profess in religion? I don’t even know how you can pass the 9th grade without knowing what Islam is… How can you profess in a Biblical setting without even knowing why we use the doctrine of the trinity? Messiah is called God in Isaiah 9:6, Holy Spirit is even in the second verse of Genesis, God speaks in plural when He says, “come, let Us make man in Our image.” In the OT, the Holy Spirit is able to be offended, like a person. God’s divinity is revealed through Jesus Christ. The early Hebrews didn’t have a full understadning of the divine concepts of heaven, hell, demons, angels, ect. I’m surpised he professed as an evangelist and is completely ignorant to all of this. He doesn’t even understand different versions of the Bible and the importance of scholorly work. As I’ve said, I’m amazed by his ignorance. We’re ll ignorant to somethings… But you really shouldn’t profess in what you’re ignorant in…

Of all the half-truths spouted in this website, the part citing the Our Father is the hardest to swallow. He states that Muslims believe every word of the Our Father except for calling God, Father. I would think the part, “thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven” would be hard for Muslims to follow if in fact drinking alcohol and fornication outside of marriage are sin on earth though they are free to do so in Heaven. It seems this man did not have a strong grasp on his own faith before he gave it up for Islam.
 
I converted to Islam because its theology was moreorless what I already believed (I believed in God but did not accept Christian doctrines of the Trinity, Divine Incarnation or Atonement). I was overwhelmed by the reading the Qur’an and quite quickly decided it was of God. I also greatly admired the Prophet Muhammad upon reading about his life and have tried (and failed) ever since to live up to his example as best I can.

This is a similar response I’ve seen from Muslims, Mormons, JW’s, etc. They convert to these false religions because they have an easier understanding of God. It’s like all these religions are putting God in a box - limiting His awesomeness and mysterious Trinity. I feel sorry for these people who can’t take that God is beyond what any human can fully understand.

Why were these Christian doctrines hard for you to accept? Why did you decide so quickly that the Qu’ran was of God? Do you believe the Bible still? If so, what parts? Do you have a good understanding of the Bible? What did you admire about the life of the prophet Muhammed? How are you supposed to spell Muhammed in the first place? Seriously: Mohammed, Muhammed, Muhammad… ?

Mike, now is not the time to pity someone else’s conclusions about God based on what could very well be a misrepresentation of that conclusion due to lack of information. Just go pray for him for now. :signofcross:

Because they’re illogical, alien to the Abrahamic tradition and most likely concocted in a futile attempt to create an internal consistency to the New Testament.

Because it proclaims itself to be the Word of God. It speaks to you directly with incredible power, pushes you into questioning your beliefs, traditions and to ponder on creation, inviting you to come to the worship of God.

I believe the Bible to be flawed and manmade text yet still containing some truth. My knowledge of it is probably average.

His total commitment to his cause despite overwhelming pressure to give up. His courage in the face of persecution and death. His great personal integrity throughout his life, the mercy he showed his enemies by not taking revenge on anyone. His belief in and his implementation of social justice. His respect for others and taking their opinions into consideration regardless of their status.

I think Muhammad is the best spelling. I don’t think it really matters though.

Exactly. Self proclaimed. How come Muhammed never speaks to God directly like the other prophets throughout history? Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Moses and Jesus Christ. All of them were directly sent by God. True, Muhammed meats Gabriel. But so did Mary, then again, she’s not considered a prophet.

Could you give me some examples of his integrity? His mercy? Or when he takes other’s beliefs into consideration?

One more thing, what does the Qu’ran mean when it says “Muslim” ?
 
Kadaveri, I really want to ask this without it sounding “loaded,” but I don’t think there’s anyway to do it so please pardon me before hand, but what do you feel about Koran 52:24, which says that handsome young boys will be servants in heaven? Doesn’t that imply homosexuality?

“And there shall wait on them [the Muslim men] young boys of their own, as fair as virgin pearls.”

Also, did it ever bother you that Muhammad’s wife, Aisha, was only 6 or 9 years old when she married him?

Oh and just a silly question, you can disregard this if you want, but if a handsome young boy dies, does he get his own group of young boys to wait on him?

My wife converted to Islam because in her own words “it’s the next step up from Christianity” a lot of the values she grew up with in Catholicism are also present in Islam. She didn’t grow spiritually in Christianity and she never really understood how Jesus can be God. In her mind God the father is a separate personality than Jesus. It was then easy to accept Islam once she overcame the misconceptions and stereotypes.

That’s another thing I just don’t understand. How is Islam a step up from Christianity? One thing Islam doesn’t have is prophecy:

“Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Councelor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” -Isaiah 9:6

And even in spiritual growth I’d say Christians are closer to God:

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” -John 1:12

"“The Jews and Christians say: We are the sons of Allah and His loved ones. Say: Why then doth He chastise you for your sins? But Isn’t that what a loving Father is supposed to do? Ney, you are but mortals of His creating. But Isn’t every child a mortal of his father’s creating?” -Koran 5:18

Fortunately Christians are generally more educated than Moslems (in Western par of Indonesia), so they have greater bargaining position to the government, so the hard-line Moslems are not so easily to force their intention…
 
Conversion to islam from Catholicism is a certain recipe for eternal damnation. Let us all pray a rosary for the Holy Catholic Church…God’s only Church…
