Why didn’t God make both genders at once?

If both genders are equal why wouldn’t he have made them at the same time or was it symbolic of something else?
 
There’s a story in the Jewish tradition that the first human was both male and female, and only later separated (the creation of woman by taking a rib from man), and that the point of sex and marriage is to have the halves reunite in one flesh and become whole again.

I’m not sure I’d go as far as to say as I believe it, but I do see a certain logic to it. God created mankind in His image. Since mankind is both male and female, obviously there’s a feminine aspect to God. Given the creation story, when he says let us make man in our image, it makes sense that first would be both. And then later separated

Btw, I’ve ordered that book for you, but it was on backorder.

The time that they were made says nothing about equality, as it could be looked at two ways. One way is “men are more important, since they were made first”, or, “women are more important, since they were the latest version”.

Because it was more fitting that God use a piece of Adam to create Eve, so that she would truly be “flesh of [his] flesh and bone of [his] bone.”
 
Lot of misconceptions…male and female refers to the biological sexual differences, and has nothing to do with gender.

Gender refers to roles in society.

So, since there was not societal role clearly defined at creation, yes, Adam (or the biological male) was not both genders, but genderless.

Gender would not have existed until Eve (or the biological female).
 
Gender and sex are one and the same. Despite modern attempts to change that.

Men have penises. Women have vaginas. Rare cases of genetic mixups or mental disorders don’t change that.

Worrisome little idea though if he made us in his image and he is the trinity how does that work? Since there are women does that mean God has a feminine side?
