Quick answer off the top of my head…

Mary was given that grace by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross - God looking ahead to that event and applying that grace Christ won onto Mary.

Now, if we were all given this grace and the moment of our conception, no one would have crucified the Lord, hence no grace could be given to us in that way.

Also, if there is no crucifixion, then there is no showing the world how much God loves us, no demonstrating to us so clearly the ugliness of sin. And in some way, if there was no cricifixion, then God’s justice would be left unfulfilled - the infinate price Christ paid for our sins would not have been paid.

I think you did not hear that discussion because it was not intrinsic to the question. The question was primarily about the Immaculate Conception and why God did not create each of us as He did Mary.

Really? I thought the question was why God did not create us with the same grace as Mary so that we could remain sinless throughout our own lives. I offered an answer that even if God gave us that grace, it does not necessarily follow that we would exercise our free choices in a way acceptable to God - as Mary did.

So, in effect this particular grace given to Mary was actually forced upon Her as she never had a choice as to whether she would receive it or not.

Well, I guess that’s true of the uncreated grace that is offered to all of us. Then again, there is nothing stopping us from rejecting it as far as I can see. I would not call that forcing grace upon us, which is why I suspect you use the words “in effect.”

Rather, her choices began when she chose to perfectly fulfill God’s will…

I’m not sure I follow. She didn’t make any free choices prior to the Annunciation? I’m pretty sure that’s not what you mean, but don’t know exactly.

But the singular gift of being born without Original Sin was in no way a choice save by God alone who chose to offer this role in the story of salvation of Mary.

I didn’t see the question as being primarily about original sin. I mean, most of us Roman Catholics were baptized as infants, so I guess we didn’t have much of a choice there either. Nevertheless, we obviously have the choice down the road to reject what’s been given to us, even though the effects of baptism may not be able to be completely suppressed.

Let me ask you this: Did Mary have the free choice to accept or reject the Angel Gabriel’s request? If you feel it’s too off topic, I’ll open a new thread.
