Why didn't Jesus write anything to give to future generations?

Good answer…plus books were rare!
In those days prior to the invention of printing, books were likewise very expensive, and very slow to produce, in addition to the higher rate of illiteracy then.

There are so many gospels. Not just the four we receive as canonical, but many others as well, such as the Gospel of the Hebrews and the Gospel of Thomas. Why, if God knew that there would be so many different gospels being passed off as truth, did he not have Christ, after his ressurrection, and before ascending into heaven, write an account of his own life – The Gospel according to Jesus Christ [himself]? It just seems odd to me that Christ wrote absolutely nothing, save, perhaps (if my memory serves me well), the letter he wrote to the King of Edessa, which is recorded by Eusebius. Are there any good reasons why Jesus chose NOT to write a gospel of himself? 🙂
cause Jesus knew his church would and could never fall into error and hell will not prevail…So 2000 years later, without Jesus’ writings…the church christ started is still the same, so if he would have written anything, it would still be the same…so basically it would have been pointless. But I am sure Jesus has a good reason that we can’t understand.

maybe another reason why Jesus didn’t write anything is that most of the people in the world at the time of CHrist were illiterate. Writing wouldn’t reach many people - but a teaching, preaching church would.
Reason #2million why sola scriptura coupled with individual interpretation was not part of the early church. Most of the early church was not able to get written documents, and many could not read anyway.

But Jesus, the man, did write some things, e.g. De bello Gallico, Commentarii Belli Civilis, Anticato (lost), love poems, letters…
There is an interesting discussion going on in another apologetics forum here: christianforums.com/t1143778-who-was-the-historical-jesus.html&page=5

I think you have it. As it was the movement seems to have spread remarkably fast. The Gospel would only have to be written after awhile to set some limits on what was taught.

Gerry,
Sorry, I was thinking of “He who is without sin, cast the first stone”, which was a ‘message’ for ALL…In the words of St Francis, “Always preach the ‘Good News’ of Jesus Christ and when necessary use words”… Annunciata:)
p.s. maybe it didn’t need recording?:twocents:
Hi Gerry,
To what Jesus wrote in the sand, I give this insight.
To those who operate with the Holy Spirit and wait on His lead, we often find it necessary to start and then He joins in and leads. I believe Jesus was waiting on the Holy Spirit and " started" by writing in the sand, then He received the message " He who is etc."
So Jesus was just waiting on the Holy Spirit.

That may in fact be possible, and reasonable. To avoid the accumulation of useless and potentially heretical myths, and set the facts straight on what Jesus really taught.

I don’t know, and neither does anyone else.
Hi Pinklady,
Nothing could be further from the truth. You have just denied Christ. I dont mean this as criticism, but it is a lesson for all of us, to look in the mirror. The quick throw away line, (note we will have to give account for every idle word) often is revealing. We all need to meditate so we include Jesus in our life.
I am not being cute, He is alive and will live eternally. And He knows and if you really want to know, just ask. If the reason you need to know is to gain some glory, the answer may not be forthcoming.
If your sister knew would you say , no one knows. Your saviour knows and He is listening to you.
Christ be with you
