Why do angels have free will?

What purpose does it serve to grant angels free will? And why are humans chosen over angels to share in God’s glory?

I read somewhere , I can’t recall, that angels had free will, but no longer do. There were those that rebelled against God (demons), and those that didn’t (angels). The same goes for us humans. We have free will on earth to make the choice for or against God. Death pretty much seals our fate and no free will after death. The decisions are made on earth while alive.

It would go against GOD nature to create something that goes against His very nature.

And Angels continue to have free will. They decided at the time of their creation wether to allign their will either to be for or against GOD.
That they cannot change, once they made the decision.

There isn’t “dogmatic” teaching on the precise nature of angels, but it is certainly traditional and proper to believe that they do. For instance, in Pope John Paul II’s Catechesis on Angels, he states:*As creatures of a spiritual nature, the angels are endowed with intellect and free will, like man, but in a degree superior to him, even if this is always finite because of the limit which is inherent in every creature. *You can keyword search that document also for terms like “free” or “will” to see other descriptions as such. Basically, freedom is associated with love. As the Pope states elsewhere:*To have chosen God means that they turned to him with all the interior force of their freedom, a force which is love.*Both man and angels are blessed with freedom that they might be able to love. Once the angels “chose” God, they did not “lose” freedom - they simply remain ever-choosing God. Just as humans in heaven haven’t “lost” free will, they ever do the will of God.

There was one episode of Star Trek where there was an example of this. One supposedly omnipotent being wanted the love of a man. She did her best to win his love. He told her that she couldn’t force him to love him. She said something like, “Can’t I?” and forced him to love her. Only after her coersion was he then loving. She tried kissing him, stopped, admitted that it wasn’t enough, that she wanted his love but wanted it to be freely given, NOT coerced.

One way to know if love is authentic is by having the other alternative. It’s the way we can manifest love. It needs to be freely given.

Further, I didn’t think humans were chosen over God to share God’s glory.

So, why do angels have free will? Because God wanted it that. He wanted us all to chose him, freely, voluntarily.

We do not loss free will after death. However we are show the glory of God and we want noticing else. Demons still have free will you know

Certainly angels have freewill. We have references to Satan choosing against serving God, so that’s freewill. The Apocalypse describes angels sharing in God’s glory.
