Why do Anglicans think they are Catholic?

Now don’t get mad anyone, but look at what I came across:

I rarely would want to take my guidance from heretics, but this seems reasonable. Find a heretic, and let’s ask him, and see.

Of course that’s not rude; it’s a fair question. Because I do not affirm a couple of what Anglo-Catholics sometimes refer to as the Roman particulars, esp. with respect to the office of the Pope. Sort of like a very friendly Orthodox.

Calling them “priests” implies they are male, which is certainly an insult to confuse their gender on purpose. To me that would seem distasteful.

I did not use an unkind word. Priestess is a well-known English word that means “female priest”. So I fail to see how this is an unkind word.

That wasn’t my point. I merely pointed out that the Protestant Episcopal Church’s official statements would be considered liberal by any fair-minded human being. I wasn’t arguing whether it was biblically correct or not.

I wasn’t “bashing” anyone. I don’t understand why people play the victim so frequently nowadays.

You are very considerate, and it’s appreciated, but you don’t have to tread so lightly. I’m not short-fused or thin-skinned.

I certainly do accept the office of the Pope. But not quite as you do. Anglo-Catholics consider him the Primate of the West (though, sadly, I don’t think Benedict is using that title), primus inter pares, And a nice guy, in addition. At Mass, when we pray for all faithful bishops, we pray for him by name. Were I to meet him, or attend a Mass celebrated by him, it would be something to speak of for years.

But, like the Orthodox, we don’t think he has universal ordinary authority, or a personal charism of infallibility. Doesn’t stop Anglicans from respecting, listening to, and honoring him and his office.

It has much to do with ignorance, I think, and surely that is spread around a lot by the MSM. Not wrong to be sad, of course. But not much you can do about it, but spread a little light around.

GKC, I pray that you and your brethren will one day unite in full communion with the Holy Catholic Church. It seems to me Jesus the Good Shepard is still gathering his flock. The Catholic Church is the Body of Christ. Jesus entrusted Peter with the keys to his Kingdom. Pope Benedict XVI is the rightful successor to Peter.

Just one question, do you believe St. Peter had “universal ordinary authority, or a personal charism of infallibility” on matters of the Faith?

I am only curious. Trying to learn what others outside the Church believe.
Truthfully, I don’t know the answer to that question and I guess I have some homework of my own to do!
