Why do Anglicans think they are Catholic?

C’mon brother, you’re being very uncharitable. I disagree with TEC’s leadership and the garbage they’re peddling as much as you, but I don’t think ICA04 was actually trying to get a dig in on us with the ‘catholischism’ bit… just using a counterexample. If you’re surprised at Edwin’s vehemence, then look at your own response to ICA04’s rather mild and probably unintended slight. It’s understandable that someone get a bit defensive if someone starts pounding away with a sledgehammer on their church(es) and you came down really hard.

I think the approach you’re taking right now is unconstructive at best. 😦

(Also, if you start ticking people off by being sarcastic and insulting all the time, you’ll wind up banned, and that would leave me with one fewer friend on here!) 😛

God bless ya, Josie. I wish I had a dime for all the Catholic guilt, pope, and vatican jokes I’ve heard. I usually laugh at them. A lot of them are hilarious. I know they’re an exaggeration or boloney, but many are funny as heck. That’s because I have a sense of humor and don’t take everything personally. Apparently you don’t either. Thanks. Some folks get their underwear in a twist at the drop of a hat. If these Episcopalians want to go to Yoga, Carbon Footprint awareness, and Zen Meditation courses for Lent, that’s their business. I don’t want my bishop rubbing Ho-Tai’s belly, meditating with Zen koans, or celebrating Davali. I want 'em old-school. Thank God mine is!

Thanks for the post. I’m getting pretty beat up for my “juvenile and hurtful” posts.

Not to extend this any further, but gurney apologized, for his use of that term (before Edwin even posted). Edwin was mad concerning an analogy that was made. And while we’re on the topic of unacceptable terms, another poster has used the term “Catholischism” and I see no one berating him. Kind of ironic, huh.

There is no analogy between hurting an innocent person and ordaining someone you consider unfit matter for the sacrament.

Well, OK, maybe there is. Perhaps I’m more of a modern liberal than I like to admit. I suppose from a Catholic perspective ordaining women could be seen as desecrating a sacrament, and I certainly understand why Catholics respond angrily to that.

I apologize for my reaction. I should have been more understanding.

The term “catholischism” is also silly and rude, while we’re at it. If anything, it’s less justified than “episcopagan.”

I believe one of them is the Netherlands, in fact, I am sure that they even have a political party - something to do with lowering the age requirement for consensual (not sure I spelt that right) sex.

Prove the Netherlands is not strict on pedophiles.

The party you speak of has 3 members, and only became a party this year.

The USA has ultra-nationalist parties, yet it is not national socialist. The USA has communist parties, yet it is not communist.

I mean no wonder people here say such horrible things about Europe when they think things like Europe likes pedophiles. Especially when there are European countries who sterilise them!
 
Anglicans are catholic, little c or big C. Christ said he would build his church on the rock, St. Peter. He never said that would exclude all others, or that there was no room for all. Christ himself was a Jew and took his message from an exclusive and closed society, to the gentiles, US. If we are to follow the example of Our Lord, can we follow the dictates of the Roman Church, which excludes others from receiving the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist? As far as my own Catholism, I pray for the intersetion of the Saint, love & venerate The Holy Mother, hold the prayers of The Holy Rosary close to my heart, and receive The Lord’s Feast with all my heart. Yes, this Anglican (and most others) is Catholic. God Bless you all!

Grampben, whether it’s only three members or not, the idea that they can organize politically is sickening. And the Netherlands (government) should be ashamed of themselves allowing these “people” political leverage of any kind. This is not to say however, that I believe all Dutch people are like this (or that I view Europeans as being sympathetic to pedophiles) I only offered one case of what I thought supported what Gurney had said.

No what you originally said was that Europe was soft on pedophiles. You said many countries in Europe were soft on pedophiles.
Then you said it was the Netherlands.
Then finally you admit it’s a small, insignificant group.

They are not being allowed ‘leverage’.

Grampben, you are confusing me with gurney, it was not me that stated Europe was soft on pedophiles. And I did nothing but offer a case example because you asked for proof, I however do not hold to the opinion he espoused. I was just helping him out. 😃

P.S. I do not know enough on the matter anyways to make such a statement.
