Why do animals suffer?

This is not a response to anyone but a consideration I am bringing to awareness of all. Yesterday I expressed my opinion that I didn’t necessarily believe animals had souls but that they certainly did have some form of being. I thought if they couldn’t sin it would not be a “soul”. After going over this since then I have come to the conclusion I was very wrong. A blessing as we all should be aware is a bestowing of grace on the receiving soul. As in the sacraments or a blessing from a priest. A mark is left on the soul by the blessing and it is considered according to the Church a portion of our inheritance in heaven. When God created the animals, according to His Word in Genesis, He declared them good, very good… AND HE BLESSED THEM. Considering this and the position of the Catholic Church, God would not bless something he created if it had no soul to receive the benefits. Based on all of this, I am now of the opinion that they must in fact have a soul regardless of what the type is of which I am not privy to that information. But if He bestowed grace upon them, that is a bestowal of a portion of heaven according to the gift transmitted by a blessing. The amount of grace in our case is Dependant upon what you are open to receiving based on your holiness. An animal cannot commit sin however. I am open to any reasonable thoughts on this but I would suggest being very kind to your pets.?
:yup:

I have argued so many times with people this same point!A dog(fer instance) does what it does because s/he is a dog. They don’t premeditate what they are going to do.{hey, masters gone!I’m gonna see what’s in the trash.}They just do dog things and think dog thoughts because that is what they are.Dogs.(Isn’t that right,Bosco?)
On the other hand, they can be taught right from wrong in the sense that they associate negative responses with certain actions, and versa-visa…

Well spoken!👍

Maybe for instance, a pet dog for someone is God’s way of teaching us to love even those who don’t appear to have a future.
I’m sure when God looks at most of us at certian points in our lives, its been hard for him to see us with any future too.

I think you are right on the money!I certainly question why God loves me so much that He would give His life for me.I sometimes muse to myself that my dog looks at me the same way I look at God.With complete trust and awe.My dog seems to live to please me.I only hope I can please God even just a small fraction of how much my dog pleases me.😊

We want to please God when we realize he has unconditional love for us (that we can reject)
Dogs I know of, have unconditional love for their family.
Even abusive ones.😦 Just like many people…

We don’t always have unconditional love for everyone all the time.
Thats why we need the sacraments. They don’t need them.
They already have the law in their hearts.

Your being pleased by God’s creation is pleasing to God right?
So, just see Jesus Christ, AND your dog, in everyone you meet.😉

IF…
(author unknown)

If you can start the day without caffeine
If you canalways be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are to busy to give you any time,
If you can understand when those you love take it out on youwhen through no fault of your own, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can honestly say that deep in your heart that you have no prejudices against creed, color, religion, gender preference,or politics,
Then you have reached the same level of development as your dog.

hey, thats good… 😃

Wasn’t Adam created before the animals?

There is evidence that man and dinosaurs have co-existed, which goes against the evolution theory.

I would think they suffer due to Original Sin.
In Genesis chapter one, animals came first. In Chapter 2 man came first. Man and dinosaurs most definitely co-existed, and still do. But now they are called “birds”. Evoution and faith are not mutually exclusive.
