Why do Baptists hate Catholics?

I know people who are Baptist. They may disagree with Catholic doctrine (and disagree with Methodist and Lutheran doctrine as well), but I really don’t feel that Baptists hate Catholics, or Methodists, or Lutherans, or Jews, or anybody else, for that matter. The Baptists just have the idea that they are right, and they may be somewhat like the Pharisees in their ideas “i.e. my way or the highway” but I don’t think it is because of hatred or prejudice.
Yeah, I dont think Hate is the word I would use but Baptists really disapprove of the Methodist way of Baptism, I have had several ask me why we pour or sprinkle babies. It really bothers the Baptists for some reason.

Oh please…don’t decipher it, like you never lied…they didn’t know he lied they just ASSUMED he was Catholic…lighten up.
Besides the subject lieing in itself is not a sin. Bearing false witness against thy neighbor is. If I was a spy and was caught and they asked who I worked for I would lie. But lieing is a sin at times as well besides bearing false witness. It is dishonorable on many occasions. I wonder why people think lying is a sin all of the time? God speed.

We don’t hate anybody, including the Baptists!

Baptists hate everybody, including themselves!

First of all as far as we know is that you are not even Baptist, you are LDS. Another is, why is it always the negative waves? Have you ever said anything postitive? Do not be so negative and hate others yourself, or disrespect them. God speed.

As a Catholic Christian, I do not hate anybody. I respect the beliefs of other religions/denominations, even if I do not agree with them. I pray for those who hate me, because that is what Jesus, my Lord and Saviour, told me to do. I am obedient to Him, and I pray that those who hate me may come to the understanding and knowledge of my faith. :amen: :gopray2: :bible1: ❤️

Lying is not a sin all the time? When is a lie not a sin? It has always been IMHO that lying is the root of all sin. It is the easiest “Active Sin” for one to commit.

Lying is a sin when it is used in a dishonorable way such as to rob a bank. Lying is not a sin when it is used for the purpose of serving God. Read Genesis 12:10-20. Abraham had to lie to live and bring glory to God by setting the stage for Isreal. That is an example of lying for the glory of God. I may not be the best at explaining this, but I hope it makes sense. God speed.

Lying is an offence to Jesus who proclaimed himself to be the Truth (we can possibly add the whole truth and nothing but … ). Thus it could be said that any offence against truth, such as lying, is a sin.

Like most sins the gravity at least of lying is not certain in 100% of cases. There’s a very interesting thread in these forums about the hypothetical Jew hiding in the attic and whether it’s OK to lie when being questioned by the Nazis, for example. I think the most common opinion was when it was a sin, but very low on the scale.

It’s kind of funny that there is a little battle going on in my local newspaper between Catholics and Baptist.
From what I understand, someone sent a letter to the opinions page in which he lumped Catholics with Muslims and Buddist, suggesting that Catholics aren’t Christian.
So he got a response by a Catholic, which inspired a response from a Baptist who claims the Church isnt based on anything biblical.

I was raised and baptized as a Southern Baptist, and am now blessed to be Catholic.
God bless you and Welcome Home! 🙂
While “hate” is too strong a word, I don’t think that Catholics were regarded as real Christians. This assumption was based on a complete misunderstanding of what Catholics actually believed and practiced. I had a vague impression that Catholics were a superstitious group of people who taught human traditions in place of the gospel, that they believed that crucifixes and holy water had magical power, that the thought that they earned salvation by following the orders of the pope & priest, and similar nonsense.
I heard the same thing. I thought that was funny. Sorry, but that makes me laugh… not at you, just at the idea that anyone can think that we are that stupid to do such things. In this case, ignorance is not bliss. So I understand that you were only going by what you were told. And that is the sad part. Instead of people finding out for themeslves what Catholics believe, they just rely on someone else to tell them and they believe everything that is told to them by someone who is not even a well-informed practicing Catholic.
The actual beliefs of a well educated practicing Baptist and a well educated practicing Catholic are quite distinct, but they are closer together than ill-informed Baptists commonly assume.
I guess it depends on what Baptist church someone attends. Not all Baptists are alike. But all Catholic teaching is the same. I won’t say that all Catholics are alike because there are some Catholics out there that have no idea what is going on and they put us practicing Catholics to shame. There are so many Protestants that assume that these non-practicing Catholics are the ones to set the example for all Catholics.
Unfortunately, there are ignorant Baptists who assume that all Catholics are like the most outrageous of sinful and rebellious so-called Catholics. And there are Catholics who assume that all Baptists are like the most ignorant, prejudiced, and hateful Baptists who preach hatred for and lies about Catholicism.
I’ve never heard of this but I guess you could say that there might be some Catholics out there that think such ugly things of anyone. I pray that there isn’t such hatred and ignorance among Catholics.
Let us work to clean up our own house, and pray for our separated brethren.
This is what my Baptist brother-in-law said to me. Well actually it was, “clean up your own back yard!!” I really couldn’t stand that. I was trying to tell him the Truths of the Catholic faith and he blew me off the first time. He was so furious with me and “full of hatred” towards me. We were on the phone and he hung up on me. 😦

But now all is much better. I pray for him a lot. I spoke to him a second time and he received me in a better way. It helped a lot that I had prayed to the Holy Spirit, I had just gone to confession and received Jesus in Holy Communion. This was right before I got to his house. Someone took over my body  and took over the words that came out of my mouth. 🙂 I had Jesus Christ on my side. He gave me the Graces to speak to my bro-in-law with love, patience and kindness. My bro-in-law listened to what I had to say. Jesus was also on his side and He gave my bro-in-law the Grace that he needed to accept what I had to say. He’s been accepting books, CDs and DVDs on conversion stories and Catholicism in general. I just don’t bug him with questions if he has watched or listened to any of them. 😦 I really want to know though, but I’m afraid to ask him. I don’t want to be a pest to him. It’s been a while though so maybe soon I’ll ask him.

I still pray for my bro-in-law as I love him very much. :gopray: I hope to see him back home where he belongs. He’s been gone from the Church for about 16 years now. So all in God’s time.

I shall pray for all fallen away Catholics and all of our separated brethen. :gopray:

ditto

Our Cantor and our Organist both have spouses that are Baptist. We see them only at Christmas Mass. They been married for over 50 years each.

I used to be a Baptist for 5 years, till i gave it up and joined catholic. I feel I am coming back home. The catholic yoke is light and full of light. I did not like them talking about dislike/hate etc about other denomination. I always thought, ‘why are these denominations in the world are fighting with each other?’ they have time to come to church on time, they have the time to dress properly in suit and impress others, but no one has time to do what christ said. “love others as i have loved you” He never asked to build a multi million dollar church, he never asked us to do this and that, just a simple request “if you love me, then do as i say”

There is ego, pride, jealousy, greed, etc in our diffrent churches. One ego pastor will hate the other, one pastor in gods name would fill his coffin with moeny, the other will drink a wine of comfort. Some will twist and turn the bible for their purpose. To make their point, blame it on god.

They have made it a business ans competition in this religious business is driving them towards “passing comments against each other, amassing wealth, having a desire to be famous etc”

Other denominations might have great preachers etc etc, what I liked about catholics is that we produced saints or people worth of being called saints. Some sold thier livestyle, put on beggars clothes and went into live with lepers. We have people like mother Teresa etc.

How can one have a great sex with is wife in the night and then preach early morning. How can you think of spiritual ways to entice your congregation to attend a service in some other church, while you share the donations, most independent churches are insecure as they are thinking of making money all the time.

A true follower of Jesus i belive would be like Jesus himselve, he never asked a leper for money to heal him, he spend more time in prayer rather than advertising himself, he never had no gold not silver, he never refused anyone (some baptist churches even kick out members, who are not worthy of being called Christians- who gave them the authority of throwing out a member of a church)

Who are you to decide who comes to your church and who does not. Did’nt the lord live with lower class of people. Did’nt he bless protitute who came to his feet. Did he refuse her as she was unclean.

Yes the Baptist are proud and full of ego. I look upon the lord, he has the simplicity and humbleness of god to kneel down and wash the feet of his very dear disciple. He used his own garment to wipe their feet. Such, humbleness, such love, such purity in thought. I could not find it in a Baptist Church.

The reason they hate the catholics is because their leaders teach them so. I say let us love them no matter what they are. Just as Jesus loved us. Lets us show the Christian society that we are a lovable folks. Lets us pray for them just as Jesus prayed for the ones who nailed him.

I say " Lord forgive them for they do not know what they are doing"

Baptist do not hate Catholics. In fact the average everyday Baptist does not even give Catholicism or the Catholic Church a thought or any other denomnation for that matter.

…which is really sad since Protestants owe their Christianity to Catholics…

C’mon Davy…I used to be Baptist also and I wasn’t taught to hate Catholics, and I don’t recall one single person ever being not allowed to come to church. I’m not Catholic nor Baptist, and if I were to see a Baptist (or any other Protestant) get on here and say these things you claim they are all “taught”, I’d call them out on it in a heartbeat. So, with that being said, I feel like I should also call you out for these generalizations. And I’m not calling you a liar, you may have really been told these things when you were Baptist, but I’d hope you have enough sense to know that not all Baptists teach or feel this way.

And when you said…

“Who are you to decide who comes to your church and who does not. Did’nt the lord live with lower class of people. Did’nt he bless protitute who came to his feet. Did he refuse her as she was unclean.”

The same argument could be made about the Catholic leadership deciding who qualifies as a valid marriage, baptism etc… I know the Catholic beliefs on this, so I don’t need that repeated. I’m just saying that someone who isn’t Catholic could easily throw the same argument out there.

No I think Protestant owe their Christianity to Jesus Christ. It is he that saves us, not a church
But the Church is the Body of Christ.
The Church is the Bride of Christ.
The Church is our Holy Mother here on earth.
The Church is guided by the Holy Spirit to lead all people into Truth.
The Truth is what saves us and the Truth is Jesus Christ.

Please read that more than once. Pray to the Holy Spirit and read again.

Maybe Hate is too strong of a word. I am a very strong Catholic and my two best friends whom I love dearly are Baptist. They don’t hate Catholics although they are suspicious and have some serious misgivings about what they “think” is the Catholic faith. Also, Amen to the last post about the Church:thumbsup: The Bride of Christ developed the New Testament and protected and preserved it through centuries when there was no printing press. The Bride of Christ has existed for two thousand years and maintained its unity within the Catholic church. Christ saves through his Body on Earth, The Church.

Our local Church did a big favour to the local Baptist Church which took a lot of man-power. We never got a ‘thank-you’ for our efforts. But a Free-Baptist Church on the other side of town they are just so friendly warm and inviting. So goes to show there are Baptists and there are Baptists. 🙂

Blessings and peace

I guess my question says it all. I always find Baptists to have a deep hatred toward the Catholic Church. Why so? I thought their big break was with the Church of England or the Methodists, a coupla centuries ago in England.
In my experience, Baptists of a lower socio-economic upbringing tend to be more vocal in their anti-Catholicism than the Baptists of the “rich” churches.

Sounds terrible, I know. But that’s been my experience.
