we’re all different… but…Horses for courses. I begin to switch off after about 10-minutes and lose it completely after about 20-minutes.
I have sat through some excellent homilies only to have the embarrassment of asking others how it finished and what was said after I switched off!
Baptists don’t hate Catholics. Some people who happen to be Baptists may hate what they think about Catholics and project that feeling onto Catholics. My family does not hate me and accepts me for my beliefs. They don’t agree with it, but they don’t hate me for it. They love me. I know because they are my step family and I am much closer to them than my own flesh and blood who give me a much harder time.
wow… this pretty much describes my intereactions with most (a lot of?) protestants i have met… not just Baptists… but i have to say they are probably the worst… this one baptist woman i talked to about the Faith… well, she listened… but acted like she really didn’t want to… I mean, it was kinda strange cuz i got the feeling she was interested but… not to the point of wanting to investigate on her own or whatever… Also, her husband may have been talking to her when i was out of sight… and that kinda thing… don’t know what his thoughts on religions were cuz never g ot to know him… the thing i really disliked about this woman, though… was that she… would do weird… “little” rude things to me… Like one time we were supposed to meet somewhere & she was super late… almost left but then she showed up… She did this to me a couple times and ea time she didn’t make much of an actual apology… in fact one time she didn’t apologize at all… to speak of… just said something about how she was doing this or that… uh… yeah… i assume you are doing SOMETHING for crying out loud… but anyhow… that’s what i hate about a lot of protestant religions… They are so into that OSAS nonsense… its like… "uh…yeah, ok… i probably should treat you like you are human created in the image of God & all… but I’m saved no matter what. … so … uh… i dont really HAVE to, ya see?? so get used to my rude behavior cuz i don’t entirely LIKE you (You are Catholic…) and… uh… i can get away with it… I’m on my way to t he Pearly Gates. Looks like you read the whole thing and put some thought into the reply and that is my frustration with Baptists bc they deny everything and put no thought into why they are against the Catholic Church. It just seems to be a geographical and sociological thing. My mom did it and I will too, or my pastor said x, y, z without doing any research of their own. Which brings me to a quote from you:
It’s such an insult that these Baptists feel that our religon is second rate and we dont follow the Bible. Unbelievable. They believe all Catholics are Cafeteria Catholics. It’s unnerving to me that they are shocked that we know Biblical Scripture bc somewhere down the line they obviously have been taught that we dont. I too often wondered where did this myth begin, what bafoon told them that, and to top it off they are the most self-righteous people with their arms folded ready to pounce anyone that disagrees with them. Their entire belief system is an oxymoron to me and I have long given up on attempting to have an intelligent conversation with people that are die-hard Baptist bc they are closed off like a cult to anything objective, or non-Protestant, downright hostile about it, and it goes absolutely no where.
