this is a wierd question, but I’ve always wondered why piships wear thoes little hats that jews wear. I’ve always thought that was a little odd. where did that tradition get started? does it have something to do with that other hat they wear? you know, the big pointy one (don’t know what it’s called) do they believe they have to cover their heads all the time for the same reason jewish men do? I"m just wondering.

Someone may correct me if I am wrong but if I remember correctly the initial purpose of the Zuccheto was to keep the head warm. In the middleages and before the old Cathedrals were very cold so they wore that one their head to keep their head warm expecially because all clergy had a clerical crown which exposed the top of the skull to the open air.

The Miter was originally used as a piece of clothing that would distinguish the Bishop from other people so the people could focus on him.

Both of these have over time just become symbols of office and have lost their practical purposes. I suggest that you get a copy oof the book “The Church Visible” it explains in depth all the vestments of all the levels of clergy.
