Why do Catholics Ask the Saints to Pray for Them

I loved your answer about asking others to assist in our nagging! That made me smile, so thankya!

I was thinking about the parable about the widow(?) and the judge who feared neither God nor man, but, the more nagging she did, eventually the judge gave in. If we have more people, especially more holy people, to pray with us, God may grant us our prayers the way we ask.

But notice you said it was “the more nagging SHE did.” She didn’t get her cronies down at the salon to join her in a nag-fest…

No problem!

But, we have our cronies to help us. A child in the backseat of the car talking is easy to ignore; he talks and the driver can let it go in one ear and out the other. The driver may have a harder time ignoring a litany of, “Are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet,” or whatever chant the multitude decides upon, and such a saying may evoke a response from the driver.

I could probably use the same quotes to support my stance, as there is no explicit statement that we should pray to the saints (and I do understand the difference in the usage of the word “pray” here, so I’m not implying idolatry).
