I think what most Protestants (and Orthodox) dispute is the idea of Purgatory as a place like Heaven or Hell. The idea of purgatory (lower case) as a time of purification is accepted by most Orthodox and some Protestants.… then I do not see how it is incompatible with the Catholic concept of purgatory. Since after death, there is no time as such, we have no way of defining any “duration” for purgatory, whether it is completed in an “instant” or some unknowable period.
