WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIGHTING CANDLES? WHY DO WE LIGHT THEM AND PLACE THEM IN FRONT OF STATUES. I PERSONALY FIND GREAT COMFORT IN DOING SO, BUT WHEN ASKED THIS QUESTION JUST RECENTLEY, IT GOT ME THINKING ON WHY I DO THIS.

Votive candles – the candles you often find in front of statues – are a physical means of praying for a particular intention. It is a pious belief that the prayer continues to be offered physically to the saint so long as the candle is lit. Even after you must go your prayer continues to be present at the shrine.
