Why do catholics need Pope as their authority or they do things through Priest?

why do catholics need Pope as their authority or they do things through Priest? Why do you want such Authority above you ?This was asked by a Non catholic, can anyone give me Biblical scripture proof with a best convincing answer?
 
Since this is how Christ set thing up, why wouldn’t we want the Pope or Priests? Especially since you have over 34,000 different Protestant denominations and they cannot agree on what the Bible really says yet, there are millions of Catholics and we all agree. Which is the stronger argument.

I think it is comforting to know how we believe is 2000 years old and isn’t changing day to day and preacher to preacher. Actually, there are many more of us than there are of them in the world so we must have something right.
