Jehovah’s witnesses have 144,000 that partake of the body and blood of Christ.

What scriptural reasons do Catholics have for EVERY baptized catholic to partake of the bread and wine?

John 6:53 "So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.”

John 10:9-10 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

If anyone enters through Christ they can be saved. Jesus clearly says in John 6 that we need to eat his flesh and drink his blood to have life. The same life that we will have abundantly if we enter through him. So, we enter through Christ by way of the Eucharist.

Honestly, the retort is, “Where in the Bible does it say that only 144,000 throughout the course of human history may partake of the Body and Blood of Jesus?”

Seriously, there are many more passages that support our view. The first, and most important, is probably, from John, chapter 6, that states, “If you do not eat my Flesh and drink my Blood, you do not have life within you.” Also, in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he states, “Whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the death of Jesus until He comes.” And it’s quite apparent that just about everyone in the Corinth community took part in the Eucharist, some of them unworthily.

Well, only Catholics and Orthodox have VALID holy orders to consecrate the Bread and Wine.

JWs are a cult that misinterperates scripture. Their form of communion is not valid.

I didn’t think JW’s would even take communion! they don’t see Jesus as divine I don’t think.

They actually do celebrate communion - once a year on Holy Thursday, IIRC. It’s the only holiday they actually still celebrate (as they claim all others are pagan feasts, even claiming that Easter gets its name from the Babylonian goddess Ishtar). As I’ve heard, they actually pass the cup around and the only people allowed to drink from it are the144,000 people mentioned in Revelation as reigning in Heaven with Jesus. So if you actually drink from the cup, they write your name down.

that was my reaction too!!!
If you look at the OPs posts you’ll notice he is toying with the idea of becoming a JW.
I suspect this thread is a way of proselytizing. Just MHO.
If not, then perhaps he would like to explain what he means.

Read a good book about the use of numbers in Scripture.
It will open your eyes.
There is NO WAY a properly formed Catholic would leave to be a JW.

With regards to the hundred forty-four thousand I like to make it a point that there are already people in heaven in the Book of Revelation when that number is referred to. Also everyone in Heaven if you were to take that literally would have to be a Jewish male virgin. I’m glad I know my Bible and I really wish more people would as well. Speaking of which the reason that we partake in the body and blood of Christ is because Christ said “take this, and eat of it”. With regards to the original post I am sure that you know that Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe communion is anything more than a symbol. Which come to think of it for a people who think that saluting the American flag is idolatry that seems kind of odd to me but this is just an opinion. Anyway I know you keep asking questions about Jehovah’s Witnesses and I really hope you’re not sincerely thinking about joining that group. I appreciate their Door to Door Zeal, which by the way I’ve done it as a Catholic with the Legion of Mary, but I can’t find anything about Jehovah’s Witnesses beliefs from the earliest centuries of Christianity because there were no Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I am quite sure that Jehovah’s witnesses do not partake of the body and blood of Christ. The mere existence of bread and wine at an event does not assume/presume partaking of the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

144000 is from Revelation. There are 12000 derived from 12. (ie 12 x 12000 = 144000). Who are the 12? The 12 are the apostles, they are not the tribes of Israel. The names are code names for the 12 Apostles. There is no Dan. This is Judas Iscariot. Judas Iscariot is removed, and another takes his place. These 12 become 12000. The 12 becomes 12 more (multiplication, expansion), the “000” means and so on and so on and so on. The 144000 plus the original 12 are the apostolic succession, generation after generation for all time. Who has Apostolic Succession? The Catholic Priest. The 144000 are the Apostolically Ordained Priesthood. Are these then JWs? No.

what gives you the impression he is toying with the idea of becoming Jehovah’s Witness?

Sadly I had two neighbors who left the Catholic church to become Jehovah Witnesses. They were probably born in the 1920’s and were stationed in Europe in the 1960’s or 1970’s and were converted by the
JW’s there. The wife was from Boston and the husband from New Orleans. The wife converted first and the husband later. I am not sure if they practiced the Catholic faith regularly before that or not. One of their children also became a JW. My neighbors passed away 5-6 years ago.

I thought the number 144, 000 was the number who were going to be in the Kingdom after Christ’s return. How are you to know if you are one of the 144, 000?

if they don’t celebrate Easter or other holidays, why would they have a Holy Thursday?
