Why do Catholics play the role of victim so much?

With all respect here, you have proven nothing. My church comes from Jesus Christ and that my friend I will stake my soul and the souls of my family upon. I have seen with my own two faith filled eyes the workings of God. i have also seen the Scriptures in action. I have experienced Christ present in the Eucharist. I have witnessed impossible situations remedied and folks healed. My church is most certainly from Jesus Christ and so is my priest.
**There is none so blind as he who refuses to see. **
**I have given you plenty of proof. **Do you disagree with the like of R.C. Sproul and Norman Geisler? Are they wrong?

You haven’t answered my question - Who started your Church? When was it founded? What denomination do you belong to?
I see by your profile that you haven’t claimed adherence to any creed or denomination.

**The Martyrdom of Polycarp
**When finally he concluded his prayer, after remembering all who had at any time come his way – small folk and great folk, distinguished and undistinguished, and the whole Catholic Church throughout the world – the time for departure came. So they placed him on an ***, and brought him into the city on a great Sabbath (*The Martyrdom of Polycarp ***8 [A.D. 110]).

Irenaeus
The Catholic Church possesses one and the same faith throughout the whole world, as we have already said (Against Heresies
1:10 [A.D. 189]).

Ummmm . . . shall I go on?

Hello SIA (What does SIA stand for?) You’ve been here long enough to know why Catholics feel that the Catholic Church was established by Christ. In this thread and others scripture and tradition has been provided to you to support this belief.
On what basis do you make your claim?
I mean this to be a sincere and respectful question.

I don’t consider myself or the Church a victim. But I do realize that there is very strong anti-Catholic sentiment held by many non-Catholic Americans.

This isn’t victimhood. It’s just acknowledging the reality of the way many non-Catholic Americans think.

It’s not about Catholic “victimhood”–it’s about non-Catholic ignorance.

What does your seeing posts about this (anti-Catholic sentiment held by non-Catholics) as Catholic victimhood. instead of seeing those posts as social commentary about religious ignorance and prejudice, say about your view of Catholics?

Would you have come to the same conclusion about Jews who post about anti-Semitic comments and views?

Again, your post and our responses aren’t about our supposed victimhood. They are about your faulty perception of Catholicism and Catholics.

We are not your victims. Your ignorance and prejudice are your own. Sorry. This isn’t a game of tag. You don’t get to pass your ignorance based prejudice to us and rename it “victimhood”.

You own it.
Your reply is in line with many others I have seen here. If you object to something about Catholicism then you just don’t understand it. That doesn’t pass the logical fallacy test. It might be the “no true Scotsman” fallacy.

can you show me just exactly where it speaks of that one Church to be the Catholic church?
Read the history of the Church. it is out there in somewhere.

start today then go back as far as the time of the Apostles.

no need to be afraid. it is all there.

ask and shall be given to you. knock and it shall be opened to you. seek and you shall find.

catholics dont need to hide anything. we invite you to explore the Church in everyway.

leave the bias of apostasy behind and investigate.

we cant expect them to answer these questions. they probably get embarassed for they cannot show their history like the CC can.

back it up with some kind of prove that your church was thought by the apostles. please. or how far can you go in history with your church.
was it before the Bible was put together or was it after? please answer.

I didn’t slander the RCC. i simply said that some of its members are making it out to be a victim. I didn’t say anything derrogatory about you loving your church. i wish more folks loved their church the way you love yours and I love mine.
My dear SIA, I did not suggest for one moment that you did. I merely pointed out a general observation.

Not only my Church, I also grieve for our Beloved Father God when I read of the terrible insults from atheists and secularists. For our dear Saviour when I read some of the insults consistent of the da vinci code hoax. I grieve also for the Holy Spirit who is the love between the Father and the Son, when folk deny the existence of both equating faith in Almighty God whom we KNOW to exist, akin to a fairy tale, tooth fairy and of late I note the expression ‘Spagetti Monster’. Almighty God may well be infinite in all respects but He has feelings too!

Blessings and peace

Persecuted?

By an anonomous poster over the internet? :bigyikes:

Persecution is somebody in a position of power denying a group out of power basic human rights because of their faith.

Move to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, or China and you might understand what persecution is.

Persecution is not an anonomous poster over the internet saying nasty things about you and your faith. From my following these forums I have seen both Catholics and Protestants get banned by the moderators for saying nasty things over the internet about the other. However, none of these posters are “persecuting” the other side.

Besides, SIA has been here over six months and has 400 posts or so. I assume that the moderators do not think SIA is that much of a bad citizen here.

This post is exhibit “A” in “playing the victim” around here. Sheesh. Get over it.
Hi Mozart, or should I say “Bad Evangelical,” I only say this because it is in your biography.

Get a Dictionary and look up the word “Persecution”. Well I do it for you: a presecuting or a being presecuted; especially, treatment with injustice or Abuse: He suffered presecution for his religeon.

Bad Evangelical, No where in the dictionary states you have to be one with power in order to presecute.

One main reason why the Moderators have SIA, and yourself here is to find the TURTH! “What is Truth, said Pontious Pilate.” Truth is Jesus Christ, Truth, is believing all the Words and Teachings of Jesus Christ, Truth, is Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist. Amen.

There is no need to go to China, or Saudi Arabia, when we got the Both of you here, sad to say. Remember the tongue is a deadly weapon. And if any person powerful or small like SIA and yourself who Attacks the True Presence Of Our Lord Jesus Christ in The Most Holy Eucharist is Guilty of Persecuting Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church.

You assume that the moderators do not think SIA is that much of a Bad Citizen regarding his 400 or so posts. Well, SIA and yourslef Can’t compare to the “Rock” the Catholic Church’s 2000 years and counting, teaching the Truth!

Since the Catholic Church has been around for over 2000 years and counting, I will also assume, not regarding the Moderators but Jesus Christ Himself, is protecting His True Church and that is the Catholic Church,

Post exhibit "A’’ 400 post of nonesens, V. 2000 years and counting teaching the Truth! You follow SIA, and I will Follow the TRUTH!

** They do, however say that we lost** the faith and the Reformers saved it which is ludicrous and contradictory to what Jesus promised in Matt. 16:18
And they’ve had to reform it many times, some would say 33,000 times, but we won’t argue over a few thousand.

Anyway SIA, even if you don’t agree with 33’000, there are thousands, which one of them, leaving out the Catholic Church is the one Jesus founded ?

DITTO!!! 👍 👍 👍

I’ve never been a “victim” and never will be!!😃

And just how does this equate to Roman Catholocism???
Well, first, Roman refers to the Roman Rite. It’s the rite you most commonly see in the US, but it’s not the only rite you’ll find here. All churches, regardless of rite, that fall under the leadership of the Pope are Catholic Churches.

I’m guessing that you think that Roman Catholicism is something that was founded in the 4th century, and includes all churches, ragardless of rite, that “answer to” the pope.

Or is it that you have a special dislike of the Roman Rite? 🙂

Catholic can mean universal, it can also be used more narrowly, It was used more narrowly before the Bible was codified, and before what you think of as the birth of “Roman Catholicism”.

There was an understanding of one, true church long before the 4th century. Doctrine mattered then, too.

“The combination “the Catholic Church” (he katholike ekklesia) is found for the first time in the letter of St. Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans, written about the year 110. The words run: “Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be, even as where Jesus may be, there is the universal [katholike] Church.” However, in view of the context, some difference of opinion prevails as to the precise connotation of the italicized word, and Kattenbusch, the Protestant professor of theology at Giessen, is prepared to interpret this earliest appearance of the phrase in the sense of mia mone, the “one and only” Church [Das apostolische Symbolum (1900), II, 922]. From this time forward the technical signification of the word Catholic meets us with increasing frequency both East and West, until by the beginning of the fourth century it seems to have almost entirely supplanted the primitive and more general meaning. The earlier examples have been collected by Caspari (Quellen zur Geschichte des Taufsymbols, etc., III, 149 sqq.). Many of them still admit the meaning “universal”. The reference (c. 155) to “the bishop of the catholic church in Smyrna” (Letter on the Martyrdom of St. Polycarp, xvi), a phrase which necessarily presupposes a more technical use of the word, is due, some critics think, to interpolation. On the other hand this sense undoubtedly occurs more than once in the Muratorian Fragment (c. 180), where, for example, it is said of certain heretical writings that they “cannot be received in the Catholic Church”. A little later, Clement of Alexandria speaks very clearly. “We say”, he declares, “that both in substance and in seeming, both in origin and in development, the primitive and Catholic Church is the only one, agreeing as it does in the unity of one faith” (Stromata, VII, xvii; P. G., IX, 552). From this and other passages which might be quoted, the technical use seems to have been clearly established by the beginning of the third century. In this sense of the word it implies sound doctrine as opposed to heresy, and unity of organization as opposed to schism (Lightfoot, Apostolic Fathers, Part II, vol. I, 414 sqq. and 621 sqq.; II, 310-312). In fact Catholic soon became in many cases a mere appellative–the proper name, in other words, of the true Church founded by Christ, just as we now frequently speak of the Orthodox Church, when referring to the established religion of the Russian Empire, without adverting to the etymology of the title so used.”

Yeah, I saw some of the alleged 33,000 Protestant denominations and I wasn’t impressed in the least at their lack of any information as to what they even were. More twisted biased untrue statistics coming from you know where.

with all due respect.

Why don’t you show some proof of yours being in the realm of Apostolic Succession for that matter. Did the Apostles approve of sexual abuse against children and then hiding it and covering up its known perpetrators and propagators for decades upon decades? So much for thinking that the gates of hell is not prevailing against the RCC! Tell the kids that were abused that hell isn’t prevailing against their abusers. Did the Apostles have great wealth as does the RCC? Was Peter infallible in the Bible? What did Peter do when someone knealt before him? I don’t recall Peter being carried into the Vatican on a chariot by Vatican guards. let me see here, Scriptures say that Peter was a poor fisherman who wasn’t even right about what he said much of the time! Not much correlation there between Peter of the Bible and the popes of the Roman Catholic church is there? Be truthful with yourself. Yes my friend, start doubting that where you are now has much to do with what Jesus formed 2000 years ago. Here’s the thing, it needed Reformed and it got reformed. It doesn’t matter if your church believes that or not. It’s the truth! I myself an ex cradle Catholic and (devout abiding Catholic for decades) had to finally face the truth.

SIA,

If you really studied your history you would find this reality of over 30,000 protestant churches is true.

However, Jesus Christ, only has established One True Church and that is the Catholic Church. Now this being said, don’t you think, any other church is ONE, toooooo Many.

And this One True Church or I should say this Catholic site that obviously you can’t stay away from… Don’t you think that Jesus Christ, is telling you something? I know Jesus Christ want you to come HOME.

is it what you got as a proof that your church was thought by the apostles? attacks on the CC?

sorry, it doesnt work. what i want is for you to show historical proof.

when did you church start? is there any teachings in your churches that is considered heresy by the early christians?

St. Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Smyrneans, 6:2, 106AD
**“They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the Flesh of Our Savior Jesus Christ, Flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in His goodness, raised up again. THEY WHO DENY THE GIFT OF GOD ARE PERISHING IN THEIR DISPUTES.” **

ufamtobie:

Could it be that some of us have found “home” without having to return to the dogma and stricture of the Roman Catholic Church?
Isn’t God “everywhere”?

You have provided us with a very dense, verbose quote with no credit - would you mind telling us where it came from?

Thanks.
