The Republican Party fail has failed to side with the Church on other important issues such as concern for the poor, capital punishment, immigration, health care, worker’s rights, environmental issues, war, etc.

.
I’m getting tired of hearing how the Rep are against hte poor… I am “poor” relatively speking (though don’t see mysself as such… per se)… and i am Republican because their way of viewing the economy DOES help the poor… by creating jobs… (which i might add also adds to self-esteem… welfare doesn’t)

the Democrats just want to tax everyone to death… put such a $ burden on businesses that they can’t survive… and if they go, their employees, the poor, go as well…

i could go on but… whatever…

What I’m trying to say is that I find certain things like Guantanamo Bay, and an enforced border fence to be a bit out of line.

I have no problem with legal immigration, it’s one of the things that makes this country so great, almost everyones families (except those descended from native tribes) were immigrants. I do however, have a problem with illegial immigration, not all mexican people living here are illegial, of course, but illegial immigrants are a big problem. Many are poorly educated, some can’t speak english. They use our facilites and such, but pay no taxes, meanwhile some of them suck down our welfare system. Even bigger a problem is that some are criminals, as we can see from the gang violence that has exploded in many major cities. Yes, I understand most are for the most part decent people (not counting the fact their breaking the law by even being here) trying to send money back home or make a better life for their familes. Many work on farms and in strawberry fields and such (illegially employed) for a season and then go back home. However, from these problems, I stated above, not the least of which is no identification, this is a problem. We have rules and they need to be enforced. If you want to work here or live here, you fill out the proper paperwork. Prehaps they could try and make their own country a better place to live, instead of hiding in ours. I’m not against a fence, although I think one thing we could do is help Mexico become a better country, but the corrupt government there might hinder that. Nontheless, these people must do their part. Not to mention, i think them sending our currency outside of the country without our knowlege could indirectly affect the economy. I do absolutly support legal immigration though.

I think putting your allegiance on either of the two parties is a fools game. Neither one offers me what me and my community need. When it’s time to choose the lesser of the two evils I choose neither.

I wish there was a moderate social party with emphasis on decentralization. One willing to work for a better future instead of being fixated on maintaining the status quo.

A party who would offer free quality health care to the retired, but deny state funded abortions. Who would push forward the development of small business not just with tax breaks but with incentives funded by large business, pushing forward the spirit of competition. And speaking of competition, how about shortening a patents life in order to push forward scientific development.

I really don’t know where some people get this. Most illegal immigrant pay taxes, but never receive a tax refund (so they pay even more taxes). Not only that but illegal immigrants aren’t even eligible for welfare…

Some do obtain it, prehaps they use forged papers or other underhanded tactics, although it’s not unheard of. To be honest, I’ll yeild to you there some. but one thing that must stop is that anchor baby stuff. Thats an excuse and an explotation of an unintended loophole. It was designed to make sure slaves after the civil war were guarranteed citizenship.

not too many things more out of line than killing innocent, defenseless, vote-less, helpless never-sinned human beings created in God’s image…

i pray all who voted for BHO repent…

could you explain de-centralization? not familiar w/ the term… (in this context)

i heard they get it anyway… have no idea how except maybe false ID…

yes sometimes laws need to be changed…

like laws that call killing a murderer Murder…

when it needs to be called something else…

just a thought…

when you go against nature (stem cell research… test tube babies… abortion) you always have to come up with new-fangled words and terms and definitions and legal jargon, etc…

Then we’re not talking illegal immigration, more like identity theft which is an entirely different crime altogether.
We’re not talking about stealng an identity, we’re talking about creating a fake one.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work that way, since the main thing you would need is a social security number. And you can’t just make up a fake one and receive benefits.

You have to get it from somewhere. There is a huge black market for the sale of valid social security numbers

I did not know that. You learn something new everyday.

Nope, I don’t buy it. I used to receive the local Republican’s voter guide since I was a Republican and when it came to issues about the poor, the hospitalized, the imprisoned, etc., the guide always said to vote for the one choice that cost less money. Side-by-side with the local Catholic voting guide from the Diocese, it was in opposition to what the Bishop suggested. While watching campaign coverage from the last national election, I heard the words, “drill baby drill” more than “save the unborn” from the Republicans. …

I don’t identitfy as poor, so I’m not trying to ask for handouts. I have met people from both extremes, and I do not think many Republicans are truly pro-life in the strictest sense. You can’t be pro-life if you support capital punishment solely because of the tax burden it puts on people. That is equating the value of money over human life and I’ve seen self-professed Christians speak that way.

I think the Libertarian or the Constitutionalist parties would be more inline with Catholic Dogma…

for starters, it would shift people away from the foolish assumption that we can put our trust inthe government to heal the sick and clothe the naked, when that is not their responsibility at all. It would force that problem back on the church, so we stop spending so much money on all the BS… (largely on the protestant side, they have bigger budgets- see Joel Osteens group if you dont beileve me)…

2, instead of trying to fix everyone else, we would work on fixing this country, feeding the hungry in this country, etc… the blind dont lead the blind… once a blind man sees, then he can lead others.

I’'m not going to post on this thread anymore, I feel that nothing is being accomplished.

I’m a catholic, a democrat, pro-life, and moving on.

Thanks for the discussion though and obviously no hard feelings! :tiphat:
