Why do Catholics worship idols and statues?

Why do catholics worship idols and statues when it was clearly stated in the bible that God forbids it? I have seen fellow catholics bow down their heads in front of statues of saints and kiss them. I have started thinking that “Hey, are you guys violating the commandment of God not to worship any forms of man made figures or statues?”
