Why do catholics JUMP at every newly invented MYTH about us, the Bible, Eary Fathers, ECT?

WHERE IS OUR FAITH?

The stronger the reaction, th more encouragement we give to these folks!

what myths would those be? who do you see jumping here?:bounce:
when you begin a question “Why do all Catholics . . .” what is your intent and who are you singalling out? And why do you choose such a combative stance?:blackeye:

Perhaps you may need to rephrase your question.

Outside of the CA forums, I do NOT see many Catholics “jumping” at each myth. Sadly, they are reticent to do so, likely from ignorance, bad catechesis, or to sway with the winds of political correctness.

Here, however, we “jump” because this forum is part of an apostolate whose* purpose to exist *is to to explain and defend our faith. You don’t have faith by merely saying so; you practice it through knowledge of it, for yourselves and others who, purposefully or not, characterize the Christian faith as something it is not.

Because they often present information about the Council of Trent for their arguments, taking it out of context, so its almost impossible to refute it on the spot. It’s like they have a pre-written essay that they come up and read to you, then they expect a point-by-point refutation on the spot. 🤷

Where is our faith you ask?

I’ll let the exhortation of our first sovereign Pontiff do the talking:

“Be ready always to satisfy every one that asks you a reason of that hope which is in you.” - 1 Peter 3:15 :hey_bud:

Besides bringing the reward of a duty fulfilled, the study of apologetics is in itself a valuable mental discipline; it stimulates and developes our reasoning powers by setting them to work at problems of profound importance and of unfailing interest.

We must remember that the age we live in is hostile to God, to Christ, and to His Church. It is our duty (remember our promises made at confirmation) to master the proofs set forth in apologetics so that we may have a fuller vision of the reasonableness of our faith, of the enormous strength of its defenses, and of the weakness of the objections alleged against it. It really is our duty to acquire sufficient enlightenment to enable us to answer questions that may be addressed to us by the honest inquirer.

The LATEST is the string on “Catholics” ADDING 11 books to the Bible. And I forget the name of last weeks same kind of atack.

I have no issue in responding to them; BUT harbor a deep concern about the level of Faith of the folks who take these claims seriously.

Ought we not issue warnings?

Forgive this point, but I don’t think I used the word “ALL” nor was it my intent to do so.

God Bless you,
Pat

YOUR RIGHT!

I let my fustration show:blush:

Well alot of Catholics are positive of everything they profess to be true. Therefore they feel offended if someone says something against their belief or their Church. Its only a natural reaction. If someone said your wife was fat but everyone knew she had a slim figure you probably wouldn’t be upset. But if she was borderline you may well get upset.

Good point!

🤷 🙂
Was not intended to be:)

Recent Examples of what I’m speaking about"

“Why did the Catholic Church change the 10 Commandments”?

“Did the Church actually add 11 Books to the Bible in the 1,500’s?”

While there are an unliminited number of legitiment questns, issues and concerns, these as noted above OUGHT to be recoginined for what they are. ATTACKS on the CC and many seem to respond and give them credibility:o

God Bless,
Pat

Are you wondering why a lot of people jump at the chance to refute such bogus myths? If so then I think it’s because the majority of Catholics here are genuinely concerned about the damages done by incorrect information regarding the Catholic Church. Especially when you think about what’s at stake here and that is the final end of each person’s soul.

Frankly the myths aren’t even the worst part…no the worst part has to be seeing forum goers that list themselves as Catholics, spew loads of heretical garbage all over the place.

It is a virtue to Defend The FAITH. Anyone who lets falsehood stand, encourages it.
That’s what I love about The Catholic Leage, Thomas More Law Center, Defenders of The Catholic Faith, Catholic Answers, Cardinal Arinze, Pope Benedict XVI and all who Protect and Defend The Catholic Faith!

Sometimes they are attacks, sometimes they are real legitimate questions asked by innocently ignorant people that want to know the truth! On the internet, you cannot tell for sure. It is charitable to correct errors gently and spread the truth about the Church and Christ. We are all called to be charitable.

“Did the church actually add 11 books to the bible in the 1500s?”
This might seem like an attack because it seems like such a far-fetched yet specific accusation…to us. But there may be some 15 year old protestant boy who heard this from his pastor and was confused, so he wanted to know the truth. Now, what would it look like if no one answered his question at all, or answered it flippantly? It would look either as if 1)we knew the accusation was true and didn’t know what to say OR 2)we think people are stupid who don’t know the truth. Either way, we would not be giving a good witness to Christ, which we are called to do! 🙂

It is extremely important to address questions like this promptly, accurately, and with charity. Don’t you agree?

And I do just that. Thank you.🙂 But I was fustrated and didn’t want to take it on on the OP, not knowing there position.

I am simply amazed that the WILD the claim, the more it seems to have footing?

THANKS,

Pat

I think that a strong reaction is fine but not an aggressive reaction
