Why do Evangelicals christians and Catholics vote Republican?

I read the “voters guide for serious Catholics” and soon realized with was basically telling you to vote Republican. Part of what made me realize that was the ommission of capital punishment from the list of things you can not vote for.

Also from talking to my evangelical friends, it seems they are blindly in support of republicans.

My question is, what has the republican party done for the cause of christ? Are there more strict abortion laws? Has Gay marriage been stopped? What about the quality of life of the average american?
In the last election, I got out my CCC. I looked up every issue to know how I should vote. Overwhelmingly Republicans fit the teachings more than Dems. Th edeath penalty is a tough one, but, most people don’t realize the CCC says this:

"2267 Assuming that the guilty party’s identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against the unjust aggressor.
If, however, non-lethal means are sufficient to defend and protect people’s safety from the aggressor, authority will limit itself to such means, as these are more in keeping with the concrete conditions of the common good and more in conformity with the dignity of the human person.

Today, in fact, as a consequence of the possibilities which the state has for effectively preventing crime, by rendering one who has committed an offense incapable of doing harm - without definitely taking away from him the possibility of redeeming himself - the cases in which the execution of the offender is an absolute necessity “are very rare, if not practically non-existent.” 68

What have the Republicans done?
-Got Sam Alito and John Roberts on the Supreme Court, something that will positively affect social conservative (read Christian) issues for years to come. Coincidentally, all the conservative/moderate-conservative members of the Court are Catholic.
I wonder what our anti-catholic friends think about that…😉

Most republican catholics choose to ignore this little fact.

I know the Democrats say they are the party of social justice but for me you need have a life first! After there is life then we as a society can work on “social justice” issues. So what I vote for is a politcal party that stands up for life and so far that is the Republican party. We will always have wars that is what our Bible tells us. We need to be sure we are on the side of freedom and justice.

I believe God will hold us accountable for each vote, and when we knowingly vote against life we are as guilty as those who provide the abortions.

Just my 2 cents.

I don’t think they are overwhelmingly thrilled but they are glad to have us. It’s a known and accepted fact that most of the intellectualism in the modern conservative movement comes from its Catholic members. Evangelicals are trying to close the gap by funding more public policy/politically oriented programs at Evangelical colleges and universities, but it will be years before they close the gap.

Here’s a good short article on the subject.

-Lowered my taxes. Every bit helps when raising two (soon to be three) kids. Those heartless Republicans also got the child tax credit through (something the dems have already discussed repealing). I’d say that’s pretty Christian.

As for giving tax cuts to the rich…who pays taxes?
All true. GOP got two hopefully pro-life judges on the court. Don’t look for anymore now that Leahy is chair of the judiciary committee or the Dems in charge of the senate.

Today, none of these countries, not even Italy, are still under that kind of control. Nobody would ever want to go back to that.
Speak for yourself. I’d much rather have a stauchly Catholic gov’t as opposed to the socialist secularist governments that places like Italy and Spain have now.

Why do we vote Republican?

What choice do we have?

Voting Democrat would support gay marriage, abortion and a host of other nasty things.

The Republicans sold us out the last few years, but at least their stance is better on most issues. If they DO anything about it, that is another matter. But I can not, and will not ever vote for anyone who supports the murder of babies, cloning and stem cell research, and gay marriage.

Don’t hold your breath. I already heard rumors that our tax break is going away real quick. But, that’s what good Democrats do, raise taxes.

A Democrat tax break: murder the unborn–less in taxes for social services, less in taxes for drug rehab. programs, less in taxes paid to the government, less in taxes for those who might end-up in prison–abortion equals one less taxpayer, but you can clone a human that might be more moral, if you can ever get one to live long, and prosper.

Dr. Bernard N. Nathanson in his documentary The Silent Scream said, abortion is not the answer to our social problems. Thank you God, someone is listening!

All you Catholics living in Nancy Pelosi’s district, (She is Catholic.), in CA–please send her an email, ask her where she does stand on our nation’s top five priorities to stop: 1. abortion. 2. euthanasia. 3. homosexual marriages. 4. human cloning. 5. embryonic stem cell research, thank you!

Most sincerely,

Kristopher
