Why do I always cry when thinking about my faith?

Hi all,

Ever since I can remember, I have always cried whenever looking at pictures of the saints, reading their stories, reading about God, or doing anything related to Catholicism. The odd thing is that I always feel very joyful when reading these things, and somehow, emotions overcome me and I find myself sobbing while also being incredibly happy. I apologize if this sounds a bit silly, but this has happened to me since I was young. Any ideas why??? Thank you. 🙂
 
What I see is someone who is overwhelmingly joyful and on fire for their faith to the point of tears. Being grateful, for you are truly filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit. 🙂
 
It’s not silly. I think it’s very beautiful, to be so overcome with joy. Occasionally at Adoration I find myself in tears, as well - you feel a bit silly but it’s definitely not, at all.

Don’t know why it happens on a physiological level, though. Maybe it’s that sometimes our emotions can trip and get confused. Either way, I think crying for the joy of our faith is a beautiful thing. God bless you.

Perhaps it is the gift of tears. You can ask the Lord what He wants you to do for him.
 
That’s not entirely uncommon. It happens to me when I think of certain Saints as well (especially ones that die heroically), and of course, if I think of The Deer Hunter.
 
Same reason people cry at weddings… you are overwhelmingly happy 🙂 👍👍
 
I think this is really cool, and I have experienced things like it, whether it’s goose bumps or crying at adoration. I think it is the joy we have when we realize that we may eventually be in Heaven, and when seeing examples like the saints, we are happy that they are happy and in perfection.
 
This is amazing. I haven’t had heard of the “Gift of Tears.” I definitely do not feel silly about this anymore- thank you everyone!
 
I remember once when a friend died. The tomb stone was not up yet. A few months later, I went to visit his grave and the tomb stone was up. I remember crying uncontrollably and laughing uncontrollably at the same time. I knew God was with me.

A special moment of grace!
 
Happens to me all the time at mass, and when listening to Christian music and when people talk about their faith. I feel moved and at the same time embarrassed in case I’m seen by people 🤷

That reminds me of a dear friend of mine who, after being renewed in her prayer life, would cry silently with tears at the consecration of the mass. She was embarrassed by this and asked the Lord to remove it, which He did. Then she asked Him to please give it back, and He did. 🙂
