Former baptist here, grew up in GA.

EVERY time I see those guys on the computer saying this or that, I instantly get grumpy and rant. Why? Honestly this bugs me and I have no idea why.

Is it that I feel they constantly judge everyone around them? I’m judging them for judging others!

I REALLY need to quit reading news and just delete my Facebook already lol.

Anyone else feel this way? 🤷

I quit Facebook years ago.

It is a royal waste of time, IMNAAHO.

From a Canadians perspective:

The “redneck” culture as really taken off. I think it gives people an escape, back to when times where simpler. They protray a life of family and God.

As for Duck Dynasty. I’ve never liked the show because it’s highly scripted and they are not actors so it comes across very forced and fake. But I do enjoy swamp people.

I think you already have the answer in your post. Don’t let it have such power over you.

I also don’t do Facebook at all, never did. When I saw so many of my friends and family fighting over stupid things, even pictures posted by other people on Facebook, I knew it was a giant waste of time.

I watched one time and that was enough. I don’t find their scripted reality show to have anything to do with real life unless you live in rural Louisiana and even though you are very wealthy and educated you act quite the opposite. +, I like neat beards and long hair, not crumbcatchers.😃

in the end, the actors on this show are not real, they are acting, portraying an image the producers want, right down to what color shirts and pants they wear, to facial expressions in each scene, etc.!

If you want to see the REAL duck dynasty people, try to find pictures of these people before the popular tv show, or better yet, pictures of them 20 years ago…this is what they really are.

I like them.🤷

the problem with reality tv is that it is not reality. I don’t watch any of them. I understand the appeal with the Robertson family because they can be funny and hokie but the glimpses I have had of that show, I never see they guys working but just goofing around at their headquarters. I think I can hand it to them in that the show is mostly about the brothers with Phil and Sid thrown in, they have not put their younger children on and their wives make cameo appearances. Their children have not become stage propts like in the Duggar and Bates mega monester families.

I watched a little bit of one episode once. I am not a big reality show fan. They really had a good agent that marketed them though. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Duck Dynasty devotionals!

I don’t really care when these guys make comments. I don’t pay attention.

I am getting tired of the 2 daughters from the reality show 19 kids and counting who both recently got married and one has a baby I think and now the other one is pregnant. I hope they aren’t going to try to turn them into celebrities.

I’ve never watched the show but I have watched an episode or two of other so-called reality shows and didn’t like them. I prefer an old movie on TCM any day!

that’s because old movies on TCM are more real than reality TV.

“the redneck culture has really taken off”

Taken off as in “trendy” with the young folks? If so then I have to disagree. It is popular for tv execs to make shows about it, but it’s still the accepted group to slur against and to make fun of.

As for the Robertsons: In a way I admire them. In a way I’m a bit embarrassed by them. But I’m always thankful for their patriotism and their gratitude to God.

You really hit the nail on the head! That is exactly how I feel. And while they are a joke to the intellectual types, their ability to not be ashamed of God, or to say what the believe is something I secretly admire. I wish others were like that, I wish I was like that more. And sometimes, when I am ashamed or embarrassed by people like them, I really am just feeling guilty that I don’t have the cahones to stand for my faith or my country like that with people I know.

I agree. They are true red blooded americans.

I want to clarify on what I meant by “a bit embarrassed.” What I mean by that is that they make themselves easy targets for those that are reactionary to those who may think lowly of those who share similar backgrounds to the Robertsons… The Robertsons really fit the stereotype of “redneck” or “hillbilly” by their profession and by the way they talk.

I have no issues with them being duck hunters. I have no issues with the way they dress (well, if they can actually dress up for live interviews & events then I’d be truly fine); though their dress may be deemed ultra unfashionable, they seem clean - they clean up after themselves once their work is done for the day. It is very easy to take as “white trash.”

A good majority of the world, even many in America, really has no clue about what is “rugged individualism” that seems to pump through these duck hunters and their family. They see it as dim-witted and crazy, really “out there” and “dangerous.” I see the same chutzpa in them as I saw in Sarah Palin.

Yes I agree. They have been entrepreneurs and I believe one of them has a masters degree. They have made a very profitable business out of a much loved hobby. Isn’t that the American dream?
Many see them as unsophisticated hillbillies, but I believe they have not left their values or morals behind to be successful.
