Why do I need Confirmation if I have received the gift of tongues?

I joined the Catholic Church in 2011 and have a question no one has been able to answer. I came from a Pentecostal denomination that believes in receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of tongues. My question is, what was the purpose of Confirmation given that I had already received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of tongues as they did on the day of Pentecost?

Hi,

The Catholic Church has a more nuanced understanding of how the Holy Spirit comes to us. Every inclination to come closer to God is the result of the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes to us in many ways and many degrees which vary according to the situation. While the desire to be baptized is the result of the power of the Holy Spirit, actually being baptized involves the gift of sanctifying grace with raises us to a supernatural level that we could never attain on our own. It is, therefore, a greater gift than simply the desire for Baptism. The sacrament of Confirmation builds on Baptism and gives us the strength to live our Baptism as adults with the ability to stand up for our faith in adult situations. The gift of tongues is a minor gift. Pentecostal churches tend to have little theology and rather simplistic notions about such matters.
