Why do Jehovah's Witnesses insist on this name for God?

Sirs,

I had another JW come to visit me yesterday. Different one each time. Other than the “usual” comments, this JW was really set upon the name Jehova being the name of God. He claimed that it was taken out of the original scriptures at least a 1000 times. The only response I could think of was that the only time God gave himself a “name” was in Genesis when he told Moses to tell the Hebrews that I AM sent him, and Jesus in the gospel of John also related himself to be I AM. We went around and around on this for a good while, my stance that a name did not change God. I cannot really understand his position and how it relates to his faith, but I know he will be back again soon. Is there a better position or statement to his position that the name Jehova give credence to his church?

Thanks

Harold
