Why do liberals like Islam when Islamic Sharia law condemns homosexuals to death?

Hi Sedonaman,

You mean how would the judge in the Pennsylvania case have ruled on the Skokie case? I have no idea. I feel horribly for the people of Skokie who had to live with the possibility of the neo-Nazis marching through the town, especially given that so many of them had survived the Holocaust. However, based on U.S. law, I believe that the case was rightly decided. Peaceful assembly in public areas is almost always protected speech.

I think that we agree that the case in Pennsylvania was wrongly decided. The judge had no right to ‘blame’ the victim as he did. I think where we disagree is the motivation behind it, and the extent to which that motive exists among the judiciary. The judge in Penn. (for the life of me I can’t remember the abbreviation :o) was biased; possibly in favor of the defendant b/c he was Muslim, or because he subscribes to a general bias in favor of multiculturalism. Maybe both.

My general inclination from what I’ve observed and experienced in the process of legal training is that after one goes through it, one is more likely to be in favor of multiculturalism than in favor of anything based on religion. This is just my own observation, and possibly, bias :).

I honestly believe that many liberals look at Islam and admire it’s direct simple message.

They don’t mince words or ‘spin’ their faith as most Western Christians do. They don’t respect Christianity because it’s basically spineless. They blame Christianity and Christians for the failure of the Western Culture.

I don’t think it’s as simple as ‘Catholicism vs. liberals and everyone else’.

Islam is a major issue for politicians of all stripes as the issues of terrorism and oil become more and more pronounced and urgent. The West, whether you like it or not, is dependant on oil coming from Islamic nations, and is becoming more so. Upon this rests a LOT of economic activity, either stemming from oil-dependant industry or from services coming from this. Ignore Islam and you’d pretty much throw the entire Western economy down the drain, as trade with these countries relies on dialogue and co-operation with these ISlamic countries on their terms.

And on the terrorism front, Islamist terrorism is an increasing issue, especially in the US and UK where there’s been two major terrorist incidents already. There is a need for non-Muslims and Muslims to be united under a common cause of peace, but on the part of non-Muslims, this relies on understanding the REAL teachings of Islam and ensuring that British/American/Western Muslims in general feel part of their respective countries and have Western Islam and actually contribute to their countries. You might scoff at this but a major cause of terrorism seems to stem from an identity disorder between their religious identity (often rooted in either Arab or Pakistani culture) and their Western lives.

You can find homosexuals counter-demonstrating outside abortion clinics. One would naturally ask why homosexuals need abortion, and the answer is, of course, they don’t; but they have joined a liberal political coalition to provide mutual support. That’s how they got all their influence.

Neither you nor the homosexuals will find it “hilarious” when that coalition takes over and implements Sharia Law.

More or less.
You need to remember that liberals are much less ideologically uniform than conservative Christians (Catholic or otherwise) too.

But both sides can be fairly vicious when push comes to shove:shrug:

It makes one wonder. When the Taliban took over, one of their promises was to clean up the man/boy love that is somewhat common over there. It is kinda bizaar that there is a cultural tolerance for bi-sexuality. It is rather hidden. One of the promises of heaven ins Islam pointed out by Robert Spencer is the availability of young boys as well as all those virgins. so maybe why there are some homosexuals defending Sharia law is that they are looking forward to an Islamic heaven with young boys.
