Do homosexuals perceive their homosexuality as a problem that needs a cure? Or not? Have they ever voted as a group on whether they want a cure? Have we ever considered that maybe they’re happy with their lifestyle and they don’t desire a cure? If they are happy and fine with their lifestyle, why do so many heterosexuals feel sorry for them if they don’t feel sorry for themselves? An aquaintance from the bay area said they’re actually promoting it as the preferred lifestyle there. Does that sound like they want a cure or pity?

Creation of a new life is the deepest union of the true love between 2 people. Are we incorrectly assuming that all homosexuals actually want and seek this deepest union of true love? How do we know? If they do desire it, then why aren’t they attempting to go straight and find a cure for their homosexuality? If they feel they are missing out on the deepest union of true love, we’ll be glad to help them. Changing the legal definiton of marriage is not going to miraculously cause 2 women or 2 men to defy nature and be able to have a baby without artificial means. If the definition of marriage exists to claim that 2 people love each other, yet, they’ll never be capable of reaching the deepest union of true love by creating new life, then how can this marriage claim to be of the same level when it is incapable of the greatest depth of love due to biology? If you wanted to experience the deepest union of true love, wouldn’t you want to go straight? Why would anyone be satisfied with partial love when they can seek FULL love? If one wanted to be a “little” in love, then one does not need to get married. If one wants the deepest love union, then this can only be achieved by going straight. At what point are the voluntary homosexuals blaming half the world’s population? At what point are people voluntarily choosing to be intolerant of the entire opposite gender? Do we know for sure? Promiscous heterosexuals don’t want to get marrried either. Then why vote to change the marriage definition until we know?

Either it’s a problem where they want us to help them find a cure, or it’s not. Which is it?

\Creation of a new life is the deepest union of the true love between 2 people.\

**This is not what Jesus said about the deepest love.

“Greater love has no one than this: to die for one’s friends.”**

I’m married to my best friend. She and I have created some good friends. We sacrifice every day for them. I will die for them if necessary. Would other people in relationships say the same in the privacy of their own consciences?

I don’t know if homosexuals as a whole desire a cure for ‘the way they are’. i’m sure some do and some may not, you can’t really steriotype them and say they all do or they all do not. However, looking at it from a religous point of view i’d say that i hope for a ‘cure’ as you called it for homosexuals to become strait and become closer to God. Much like i hope for a ‘cure’ for people that are strait and promiscuous (Adultry and Fornification), they may not want a ‘cure’ and may be perfectly happy the way they are. But non-the-less i hope they can steer away from their sinful ways and be right in the eyes of God.

That’s just my perspective, there may be other ways of looking at it 🤷

Can you be more specific? Who are these many and how do you know it is many?

Peace,
Ed

You’re kind of all over the place with your question, but I get the general gist.

In answer, I would ask you: Are women who want to kill their unborn children convinced that what they are doing is right? Should we change the law to accomodate people who are convinced of their right to murder innocent beings? Should they want to change? If they’re happy with what they’re doing, then shouldn’t we just be tolerant and let them live their lives the way they see fit?

Of course we changed the law to accomodate people who wanted to kill their unborn children. And look what it got us.

Sin is wrong no matter the face you put on it. Whether someone is happy in their sin is irrelevant.

Depends on the homosexual I would imagine. Most of the hard core ones don’t see their homosexuality as something wrong, they see it as a normal extension of nature and therefore, they don’t need a cure. It’d be like saying you want a cure for being Black.

I have a few homosexual friends and they sure as heck don’t want a “cure” if one was offered.

Whether its nature, nuture, a combination or a choice, I’d imagine you’re never going to get a straight answer, (no pun intended) on the issue of a “cure”.

But what of Bi-sexuals? Do they want a “cure”? Would they need one? Or do they simply see themselves as getting the best of both worlds?

Are you calling for 2 different groups of homosexuals: Voluntary and Involuntary?

Its not just a matter of snapping their fingers & going straight, these people are born that way thru no fault of their own. I have known many, & they are very comfy with who they are, others I knew tried to change but to no avail. They have no desire for sex with the opposite sex, for some it is actually repulsive, the same as heterosexuals see their acts as repulsive. There are too many Homosexuals throughout the whole wide world down through history . They cant be a mistake, God created them for a reason unknown to us, as are many things God had done are unknown as to why to us.

Lauds, I agree with you 100%. I’ve known too many gays to believe they are not created this way. But I have faith in my church, the RCC. One day science will prove this fact, and the church will acknowledge that the Biblical prohibitions against homosexual activity do not apply to these who were created by God this way. My opinion is that St. Paul, in Romans, is speaking to heterosexuals who engaged in homosexual behavior just for the fun and lust of it all. As for the Old Testament, St. Paul makes it very clear that since Christ fulfilled the OT law, it is no longer binding on Christians; Christ satisfied it once and for all. We are judged by Christ’s New Covenant or New Testament law. Our church has been wrong in the past. If I lived in 1400 AD, I would believe that the sun revolved around the earth. If I lived in 440 AD, I would believe that Jesus was not “made of the same substance” and therefore not co-equal with the Father. Ours is the ONLY church that, once science proves the reality of a situation, accepts that reality. Gay marriage is certainly preferable to cruising bars and casual sex. Joe

these days, most gay men and women see absolutely nothing wrong with their affections, orientation, relationships, or way of living. to them it feels natural and ok, and many assume that homosexuality is innate, “God-given”, and natural.

they don’t want a cure because they don’t see anything wrong with themselves.

homosexuality is not God-given, but is is something very real, and very much a part of who the person is. it is not a choice, but neither is it who they are meant to be in God. it is as natural as pride, envy, blasphemy, and lying are. these things all come naturally to many small children and young adults, but that doesn’t mean that they are right, or wholesome, or worth leaving alone.

no one is born gay. it is a part of who they are, and i sincerely believe that people should be allowed to live and shack up as they see fit. but within the Christian context and in view of God’s plan and created order, it’s not right. but don’t expect an out and proud gay man or lesbian to want or ask for help, or not be offended when we tell them it’s a sin.

Interesting viewpoint. To add another layer, though…what if science one day proves that men have a biological inclination to not be monogamous? Should the Church do away with its view on marriage? Or that pedophiles have a biological difference that makes them attracted to children? Does that make it acceptable?
Homosexuality being nature or nurture doesn’t really change the fact that it is wrong. So much of our nature is sinful…given the chance, humans will do many terrible things that they are inclined to (murder, adultery, etc) and we are to a certain extent hard wired for these sins. Also, many disfunctions and depressions are biological.

I think that the issue of same sex attraction is probably one with many complicated layers in the psyche of the person experiencing it. Compassion is what we need to offer them, and frienship. To do anything less is to invite the devil to fill in the gaps where Christians fail. I will tell you that I think homsexuality has emerged as a trend among young people because of a lack of connection with parental figures and a craving for genuine friendship. Because of our consumption society, we confuse friendship for a sexual relationship and for consuming the other person instead of truly loving them as a friend. In general we as a society have lost sight of the purpose of sex and marriage…romantic love is placed as an ideal above all other loves including love of fellow man in friendship and sacrifice. No wonder we are so quick to take any inclination towards friendship to a sexual place. This is a problem with heterosexual men and the way they view women as well.

The problem with your question is that it is impossible to define “homosexual.” Some experiment for a while and change their minds, others don’t. Some feel that their homosexuality is determined fatalistically; others don’t.

I doubt if there is anything like a “cure” for SSA, much like any addiction.

Monogamy will, in the end, prove to be the best for everyone, gay or straight. Human beings need that one person, that partner for life, the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional joining of just two people. That’s why many gays want to marry. The pedophilia analogy does not properly follow my argument. Children cannot protect themselves or make rational consensual decisions. I do not believe everything is genetic, but for the sake of argument, let’s say that everything is genetically based. A “genetic” pedophile is in a very sad predicament because he or she cannot be permitted to abuse a child. A man who is “genetically” a serial killer cannot be allowed into society for obvious reasons. Still, God does not create "junk’ and there is some purpose for these kinds of people; I just do not know what that is. Homosexuality is not a “slippery slope.” Accepting homosexuality as a part of God’s creative plan does not mean accepting bestiality, pedophilia, murder, rape, etc. St. Paul told slaves to obey their masters. Does this mean he approved of slavery? I don’t think so. If we were to follow this command literally, then we must conclude that the Bible approves of slavery. That is incongruous with the message Our Father who wants all men to be free. I believe that St. Paul’s comments on homosexuality are addressed to vile, lustful, godless heterosexual people, not to those who are created homosexual. I further believe our church will, in time, recognize this. People ARE created gay; it’s been that way as far back as recorded history. Some straight people, particularly women and men who have those impulses but cannot deal with them, refuse to see the truth in this. I’ve known many gay people over the years due to my profession. I’ve never met one who wanted to be gay; but I’ve met a lot who have, with great difficulty, accepted the fact that they are gay and have learned to love themselves as God’s own children. Does being gay allow every behavior? No. I believe the same rules apply to gays as to straights. Sex without love and marriage is wrong. Casual sex is wrong. But as I see it, two gays who have committed themselves to each other and live a monogamous life together, and who would marry if the law permitted it, are not breaking any moral law. I firmly believe this, and there is nothing that will change my opinion as I have spent a lifetime considering the matter from all angles. Again, I trust that my church will one day come to the same conclusion, probably not in my lifetime, and allow true homosexuals to marry.

Well, for one thing, pedophilia IS a biological disorder. It is NOT an orientation. It is a paraphila, which is disordered sexual attraction. Hence the -philia at the end. Also, homosexuality and bisexuality are NOT paraphilia. Please do not equate the two. The issue with Pedophilia is CONSENT. A child can NOT consent to sexual activity, making sexual activity with a child rape. This is why pedophilia is WRONG. Homosexuality and bisexuality is the attraction of ADULTS of the same gender, and it is consensual. Big difference.

As for myself, I am a pansexual, which means attraction to adults of all genders, not just strictly male and female, but people outside the gender spectrum. I am attracted to people based on personality, and not gender. I don’t think you can simply say that all sexual relationships within the homosexual community are not based on friendship, love, and sacrifice. Or in any community for that matter. There are sexual relationships that I have seen where the couples would die for the other person, and this is coming from both gay and straight people.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Also, I am a firm believer in monogamy. 😃

actually, monogamy is best for the paring for whom it was designed by God- one man to one woman in a marital bond, for life.

we need to seperate secular reality from God’s standards. just because being in a monogamous relationship makes a gay man or woman feel safe, loved, complete, happy, and fulfilled does not mean that it is right from God’s perspective, and hence objectively morally ok.

it’s not alright for anyone. homosexuality is the problem here, not mongamous love. at the same time, only God can convict a person that it’s not ok, and that these are not desires and affections which honor Him. we are not born gay, though it is a part of who the person is. we are naturally gay (or anywhere from 1-6 on the Kinsey scale) as much as we are naturally any other kind of sinner.

just because it feels right and good and make a person happy doesn’t mean that it’s Godly, or something we should stand behind.

Ah. So consent is the big factor here. Then you have no problem with polygamy and brother/sister, incest marriages provided they are all of age and freely consent?

Polygamy is not monogamy; I believe I’ve already answered that one. As for incestuous relationships, science has proven that this weakens the bloodline, such as it did the ancient Egyptian pharonic bloodline. It actually damages the genetics over time and creates mutant strains. Some products of longterm incestuous relationships even have webbed feet and hands. I’d say that this should prohibit such relationships. I find it quite interesting, and a homophobic grasping of straws to make a point, that strong anti-gay apologists always compare homosexuality to the very extreme, and totally unrelated, sexual proclivities: child molestation, polygamy, incest. The only real comparison is between heterosexuality and homosexuality. After all, more of the above crimes are committed by heterosexuals than homosexuals. If you say homosexuality justifies the above crimes, then you are also saying that heterosexuality justifies the above crimes. The only thing that I advocate is the recognition that homosexuality is created by God in some people and that these people should have the same rights as those created heterosexual by God. They should not have any more or less rights. I’m not saying “If it feels good, do it.” I’m saying just the opposite. True homosexuals are not capable of functioning on a mental, physical, spiritual or emotional level with the opposite sex. That’s the plain fact of it. Many heterosexuals engage in homosexual behavior for a variety of reasons: addicts to obtain drugs, men and women in prison are just a few that come to mind. These behaviors clearly are wrong. Women who are strongly against homosexuality tend to be so because they resent not being able to use and control gay men with their sexual powers. They tend to be over-controlling women who are used to dominating men. Men who are against lesbians tend to come from the same perspective. Men who strongly oppose homosexuality tend to be those who suffer from homosexual urges and hate themselves so much that they project their hatred onto other homosexuals who have come to terms with their sexual identity. Let’s stop using God and the Bible to justify hatred of homosexuality and instead examine ourselves before we do this kind of thing. Men have committed too many crimes against humanity through out the past 2000 years, justifying these in the name of God and Christianity; the Inquisitions, the Salem witchcraft burnings, are a few that come to mind. The history of the fourth century church is replete with murders, lies, and other atrocities done in the name of Jesus.
