Why do many Evangelical Protestants reject Christian traditions?

I’m sorry to have offended you. I’m from a Baptist background and they have nothing but yelling. I have been to a Methodist church, and you are right the pastor there never yelled. I apologize. I would have been Methodist, no doubt, had I not found the Church.

Evidently having the forms and water and liturgies don’t inspire kindess and charity in some…perhaps that is one of the reasons many Evangelicals don’t like such “trimmings”…just a thought.

We do not know what “received his word” means exactly but there is no reason to think it did not involve a confession of their beliefs.

No, I agree except I think the process is fine and does not contradict scripture.

And he did not tell him to undergo a lengthy confirmation class either…did he?

How come, when Catholics use this same kind of reasoning to defend Sacred Tradition, we are villified?

What is the purpose of holy water? Is it only used for baptismal purposes?

I have heard it is used to remind you of your baptismal vow. For those who were old enough to remember them, perhaps more so for those of us who where babies. It has always made me remeber my beliefs. Not one specific one, rather many Catholic concepts usually pop into my head from doing this. I have seen others dip items in them such as a rosary to bless them, but I would always ask a priest for a blessing on an item. It is also placed at the entry way of the church as a cleansing item. The concept of cleansing oneself before entering the temple is repeated in blessing oneself with holy water before entering the church.

He didn’t tell him the do Alpha or any other dicipleship course run by a nearby church either did he?

I guess we’re all heretics in our own way.

The Anglican Church that I am a member of does Alpha courses, confirmation courses etc.

Most Evangelical Protestants reject catholic traditions because
they think thing like holy water, communion of saint, liturgy etc.

I would add that since so many of them are in churches that are off-shoots of off-shoots and so on, they do not know many of the traditions or teachings exist, or what they are in teh first place.

I agree. I was raised in some of those off-shoots of off-shoots churches - and I have to admit (even though it makes me sound very ignorant) I did not even realize what the word "protestant"meant…I had never really thought about it - I mean I grew up in it, so …what exactly was I protesting??? It was when I became Catholic (praise the Lord) that I realized what I was protesting and I was very ashamed.

Now, by the grace of our Lord, I am Catholic and the year after I became Catholic, my parents converted and now my sister is going through RCIA. Isn’t God good!!!
