If the forum is catholic answers why do the militant atheists insist on posting here? All they seem to want to do is in their words correct the false belief but really it just boils down to seeming to want to make others as miserable as they are. All they seem to do is to want to take away peoples hope for an afterlife. Is it not normal to want to exist after death? Who cares what someone believes. It’s funny they will insist on religious people not pushing their views in their faith and they still end up doing the same? This is coming from someone who was an atheist and is now agnostic. Thoughts?

If you are convinced that something is the truth, however falsely, it’s only human to want to spread truth

I’ve not seen any militant atheists on CAF, although maybe it’s because I hang out on different subfora. I’m agnostic, I post to learn about Catholicism, and when an opportunity arises, I do talk about why I’m agnostic. I don’t do it unprompted, though.

I think if you’re seeing a lot of those posters, it’s better just to ignore them.

Hey I hope you don’t feel I was directing this at you it’s not directed at anyone specifically! Being agnostic makes sense we don’t know what we don’t know. I hope you are having an amazing day! I appreciate your response.

I imagine it’s out of a feeling of being intellectually superior to theists and a desire to flaunt it. There are also those kids that call themselves atheists and rub it in everyone’s face because they think it’s edgy and cool.

No worries, I knew it was a general question 😃. I do think that if there are posters that get you down, or come across as arrogant/condescending, the best thing to do is save your sanity and ignore them. No amount of talking to them will change it. I hope your day’s good too!

It’s going! Still in the pits of fear of despair but I’m making progress I think? Thank you for not taking what I said the wrong way and on top of that being friendly! Hope your day is filled with good surprises!

I hope it gets better for you - one thing you do tend to find on CAF is the more arrogant/disparaging a poster is, the quicker they tend to wind up suspended or banned. Normally, they don’t stick around for too long, which is good for the rest of us!

Sorry to hear you’ve been struggling lately. Keep posting on CAF, we’re glad to have you!

I wish you luck on your journey as well! I’d love to compare notes sometime if you are willing!

I would do it just to get a rise out of people. 🙂 Everyone needs a Goliath to battle or a David to slay. I’m sure there’s a better metaphor than that, but you catch my drift.

Catholic: Did you post a thread on this forum?
Militant Atheist: I did what I thought was…
Catholic: DID YOU POST A THREAD ON THIS FORUM!?
Militant Atheist: YOU’RE GOSH DARN RIGHT I DID!!!

Lucky you. There are some who post niggling things but just not enough for me to flag. One eventually crossed the line and got banned but the others are still around.

For those who don’t know, this is an allusion to Marvel’s _Agents of Shield.
Granted, Hydra isn’t exactly atheistic, but they do make good bad guys, and they are very militant. _

Religion is always a hot debate. Sometimes they just want the argument, they want to win, and they know religion is easy pickings because they can always fall back on science, and religion isn’t scientifically proven. It’s a perpetual argument that will likely never be solved.

I think most of them want us all to be “realistic” but it also comes down to the fact that they just don’t see faith or spirit, or God, because they’re closed to it, so they frankly just think we’re delusional or certifiable, and probably worry we’re sending the world to the dogs. I agree they’re miserable. When I was an atheist, with an atheist boyfriend, I was in purgatory. It was the darkest part of my life.

I think a lot of them, at some point in their lives, have been terribly hurt by organized religion. They come here as a way to release the pain from that.

I’ve only been here a few weeks…great site…
And of course, I notice the “ trouble makers “ …
Just reading their posts, and I see their looking to argue or shock.
But it is cool seeing the potential converts…asking things.
And young people…who just instinctively know…
but are looking for more positive vibes 🙂

From my experience atheists these days feel that their time has come, as our societies are increasingly secularized. It seems to give them an air of superiority over others.
