You make it sound as if the body has a mind of its own mostly directed by instinct that is separate from the mind and will that is directing the whole body and is more than just our instincts. And human’s, as people on this forum so frequently like to remind us, are more than their animal-like instincts. As such, the purpose of sex can be more than just an animal-like instinct to procreate and propagate genes. One big problem is that people seem to lose sight of what sex is. Sex from a biological standpoint is the body’s attempt to unit a sperm with an egg. Every time, whether married or not, two males, two females, masturbation etc., body is trying to unit a sperm with an egg. Even if there is no egg or sperm, the body’s actions are still to try and accomplish this. It can also be other things like bonding between spouses, however that clearly is not every time (e.g. no spouse to bond with during masturbation). Also, the bonding of spouses is also ordered towards the creation and support of the potential off-spring of the attempt of the bodies to create new life. This is not religious, it is just a fact. But if you keep this in mind as a foundation, the Church teachings are much easier to understand and make perfect sense. The problem is society in general ignores this biological fact.
Note no where did I say you have to try to create a child to have sex with your spouse.
